CRYPTOGRAPHY
Sohomjit Ganguly
We all have something or the other to hide and protect that which is most
valuable and vulnerable to us. That is human nature. The most significant technology
nowadays is Data Hiding and protection. The world has seen scenarios of “information
hiding” in various ways from Caesar's scroll to water dissolving papyrus parchments.
They were luminaries in the field as they hid the message/information in a code or
gibberish. The message could be read by only the person who “knew” how to read it or
had the key to unravel the information. So technically...
Information is within this closed box.
To open the box you need the key to this lock.
nvZcvLv 6
With the help of the key (which is held by the only
person for whom the information is intended) you
can open the lock which leads to opening of the box.
After the lock opens we can see the information it
contains.
This is the basic working of the secret information or/data hiding. One thing we must keep
in mind that if we lose the key the whole information is lost.
This branch of security is called Cryptography. It is very much viable and effective in the
market as too many corporations and conglomerates are opting for it. So that unauthorized
people (hackers) cannot steal/edit/delete important documents. As days have passed
Cryptography has evolved and Ciphers (algorithms/programs by which data is hidden) have
evolved. International standards are in place.
Encryption- It is a process by which we can “lock” our information.
Decryption- It is a process by which we can “unlock” our information.
From Wikipedia-
In cryptography, encryption is the process of transforming information (referred to as
plain-text) using an algorithm (called a cipher) to make it unreadable to anyone except those
possessing special knowledge, usually referred to as a key. The result of the process is
encrypted information (in cryptography, referred to as cipher text). The reverse process,
i.e., to make the encrypted information readable again, is referred to as decryption (i.e., to
make it unencrypted).
nvZcvLv 7
In many contexts, the word encryption may also implicitly refer to the reverse process,
decryption e.g. “software for encryption” can typically also perform decryption.
A demonstration.
On the internet .
Few important ciphers- Lucifer / DES, IDEA, RC5, Rijndael / AES, Blowfish.

Search for Life Shubhadeep Biswas
Are you not surprised thinking that we are the only living beings in the whole universe? But this
question is itself questionable. Some people are not ready to believe the fact that no where in the
universe other than our earth, life exists. They are also searching for the sign of life in rest of the
universe and they found that, Mars can be a possible place for existence of life.
Scientists from NASA launched a robotic
mission in 1975 to collect the soil from Mars. Now
this has been thoroughly tested and the results
are really encouraging. They measured the counts
of radioactive carbon atoms present in that
soil. Basically, soil microbes metabolize the
minerals and release carbon dioxide and some (one
in billion molecules) of these contain radioactive
carbon atoms. If the soil contains microbes, the
amount of carbon dioxide would be large
and automatically the probability of getting
radioactive carbon atoms would be more than that
of the normal soil. And they found exactly that.
Viking Spacecraft
They did some further experiments also. Some amount of sample was baked to kill the microbes
and then the radioactive counts for both baked and unbaked sample were measured. It was observed
that baked sample has 100 counts per minute where as unbaked sample has 10,000 counts per
minute, which means unbaked sample has some living source of carbon dioxide.

nvZcvLv 9
There were some other observations also. We all know that our life schedule is governed by
earth's clock, means earth's rotation period which is 24 hours. Accordingly we schedule our
working time and sleeping time, but the full duty cycle is always 24 hours. Thus, it can be said that
our lifestyle is a kind of direct reflection of the mechanical properties of our home planet.
Similarly, we can expect from a living being of some other planet to show a lifestyle which can be
directly mapped to the mechenical motion of that planet. Astonishingly those samples have shown
these expected features. For some time the radiation goes down, then goes up again. But the total
period is 24.7 hours which is exactly Mars' rotation period.
All these are kind of true signs of existence of Martian life. But scientists are yet
to declare their claim, they want to be more confident about the fact. People are hunting more and
more evidences. As a result different kinds of research in different fields are coming into picture.
Hope much of this critical issue would be exposed in the near future and we would able to find our
neighbours in the next planet .
There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.
- Lord Buddha

2. Albert Einstein never did a single experiment. All his
