Página do Pároco Saudações! Feliz Natal Pequenino! Em muitas
partes do mundo, especialmente nos lugares onde a língua espanhola
é mais conhecida e falada, a festa da Epifania é conhecida pela
festa do Natal Pequenino e é o dia em que se trocam prendas entre
uns e outros. Isso realmente tem significado porque foi o dia em
que os Reis Magos chegaram a Belém trazendo ofertas ao Menino
Jesus. Nós falamos muito dos Reis Magos mas em realidade não
sabemos do número de visitantes que também visitaram Jesus e se os
três reis, eram Reis ou não, São Mateus não nos é muito claro neste
respeito. De fato existia uma religião muito antiga naquele tempo
na Pérsia chamado Zoroastrismo. Naquela fé havia homens sábios
conhecidos como Magos. A tradição nos diz que houve de certeza três
e trouxeram três ofertas de Ouro, Incenso e Mirra. Esta tradição
vem da profecia de Isaías (60) a qual ouvimos na primeira leitura e
também no Salmo 72 que foi o Salmo das leituras de hoje. Com estas
duas reflexões do Antigo Testamento especialmente durante o sexto
século traz-nos a história da Epifania e os três Reis Magos. Caspar
(ou Gaspar), Melchior e Baltasar e as três ofertas. Ofertas que são
um pouco estranhos de dar a uma criança com menos de dois anos de
idade mas que tem grande significado para a revelação da humanidade
do Menino Jesus. O ouro porque representa a realeza de Jesus, uma
oferta digna de um Rei. E Jesus é Rei. O Incenso era ofere-cido aos
sacerdotes porque eram pessoas de oração, que se oferece a Deus.
Como Jesus fez muitas vezes pe-dindo ao Pai em oração por todos
nós. E Mirra usado para purificação do corpo antes de o sepultar,
como que adivinhando alguma coisa sobre a morte de Cristo e também
nos faz lembrar que Maria nossa Mãe iria sofrer muito com a morte
de Seu Filho muito amado. Na noite da Epifania é muito tradicional
haver orações, e bênçãos sobre ervas doces que eram queimadas e que
perfumavam a casa com seu cheiro aromático, as ombreiras das portas
da casa eram aspergidas de água benta enquanto o dono da casa
escrevia sobre elas com giz C+M+B+ e o ano correspondente (2020)
dizendo esta oração; “Caspar, Melchior, Baltasar, protege-nos outra
vez este ano de todos os males, do fogo e da água.” “C+M+B” foi
traduzido como Caspar, Melchior, e Baltasar, mas de acordo com a
Igreja realmente significa “Christus, Mansionem, Benedicat” (Cristo
abençoa esta casa). Feliz Ano Novo para todos ao entrarmos neste
Ano Novo de 2021! Embora que o no de 2020 virou um ano temeroso e
não nos deixou oportunidades de ninguém espero que aproximaram cada
vez mais ao Senhor. Este ano que nada impeça essa aproximação ao
Senhor, pois Ele deseja se manifestar e se fazer cada vez mais
próximo de nós. Que a nossa fé nos ajude realmente encontrar o bem
que existe em nós mesmos, nos outros, em nossa paróquia e no
mundo.
Bênção da Casa na Epifania
Infelizmente este ano não podemos distribuir agua benta, giz e a
oração . Convidamos obter o giz , e dizendo umas palavras em oração
pedee a Deus que enche sua casa com Paz, Amor, Saúde, Alegria e
Bênçãos. Como os Israelitas fizeram no Éxodo marca acima da porta
as letras e números na ombreira da porta principal como aqui:
20+C+M+B+21. Que as saudades que têm dos entes queridos enchem

Pastor’s Page Greetings!
Happy little Christmas! In many parts of the world, especially
Spanish speaking places, today’s feast of the Epiphany is referred
to as little Christmas and is the day on which gifts are exchanged.
That makes sense, as it is the celebration of the arrival of the
Magi in Bethlehem when they offered the gifts of gold,
frank-incense and myrrh to the Christ child. We often speak of
three Wise Men or Kings yet there is no mention of a number of
visitors. Matthew does not tell us the exact number of astrologers
who came to offer homage and gifts to the infant Christ. In fact
there was an ancient religion of the time known as Zoroastrianism
practiced in Persia. In that faith there were wise or learned men
known as Magi. The tradition that there were three comes from the
fact that three gifts were offered to the Lord: gold, frankincense
and myrrh. Nor does Matthew ever tell us that they were kings.
That tradition comes from the prophecy of Isaiah 60 (which we
heard in our first reading) and Psalm 72 (which was today's
responsorial psalm). From early on, Christians saw a foreshadowing
of the Epiphany event in these two passages from the Old Testament.
And as for their names being Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar--that
idea is rooted in a tradition that goes back at least to the sixth
century. But it was not a part of Matthew's description of the magi
as found in his Gospel. In reflection on what gift we might offer
to a child of about two years of age it should seem odd to give
these three gifts, yet they were gifts with great meaning. Gold is
a gift that is worthy of a king, as Jesus is. Frankincense is a
gift worthy of a priest as he offers prayers to God, as Jesus does.
Myrrh is an odd gift as it is a resin used in the embalming of a
body. As such it foretells some-thing about the death of Christ and
is perhaps another reminder to Mary that she would experience the
sorrow of her son’s death.
On the evening before the Epiphany, traditionally there were
prayers, blessed dried herbs would be burnt and their aromatic
smell would fill the house. Doorways would be sprinkled with holy
water and the master of the house would write with chalk C + M + B
and the current year (2020) above the door and say: "Caspar,
Melchior, Balthazar, protect us again this year from the dangers of
fire and water.” C + M + B has traditionally been translated with
Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar; however, according to the Church it
stands for "Christus Mansionem Benedictat" (Christ bless this
home).
Happy New Year to All, as we enter this New Year, of 2021.
Although 2020 turned into a fearful year and did not provide
opportunities to get close to anyone, I hope you got closer to the
Lord. May nothing obstruct that approximation to the Lord as He
desires to manifest Himself and make His presence feel ever closer
to us. May our faith help us to truly seek to find the good that is
in ourselves, in others, in our parish, and in the world.
Blessing for the Home on the Feast of the Epiphany
This year, unfortunately, we cannot provide the Holy Water,
prayer and chalk but invite you to get some chalk, then say a
prayer asking the Lord to fill your house with Peace, Love, Health,
Joy, and Blessings. Just as the Israelites did in the Exodus , use
the chalk to mark the lintel above the door with the marks with the
alpha-numeric symbols above. When completed the marks should look
like this 20+C+M+B+21.
May memories of your loved ones fill your hearts with a desire

By Dr. Scott Hahn Easter Sunday (Cycle B) The tomb was empty. In
the early morning darkness of that first Easter, there was only
confusion for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. But as the
daylight spread, they saw the dawning of a new crea-tion. At first
they didn't understand the Scripture, to-day's Gospel tells us. We
don't know which precise Scripture texts they were supposed to
understand. Perhaps it was the sign of Jonah, who rose from the
belly of the great fish after three days (see Jonah 1:17). Or maybe
Hosea's prophecy of Israel's restora-tion from exile (see Hosea
6:2). Perhaps it was the psalmist who rejoiced that God had not
abandoned him to the nether world (see Psalm 16:9-10). Whichever
Scripture it was, as the disciples bent down into the tomb, they
saw and they believed. What did they see? Burial shrouds in an
empty tomb. The stone removed from the tomb. Seven times in nine
verses we hear that word - "tomb." What did they believe? That God
had done what Jesus said He would do - raised Him up on the third
day (see Mark 9:31; 10:34). What they saw and believed, they bore
witness to, as today's First Reading tells us. Peter's speech is a
summary of the gospels - from Jesus' baptism in the Jordan to His
hanging on a tree (see Deuteronomy 21:22-23), to His rising from
the dead. We are children of the apostles, born into the new world
of their witness. Our lives are now "hidden with Christ in God," as
today's Epistle says. Like them, we gather in the morning on the
first day of the week - to celebrate the Eucharist, the feast of
the empty tomb. We rejoice that the stones have been rolled away
from our tombs, too. Each of us can shout, as we do in today's
Psalm: "I shall not die, but live." They saw and believed. And we
await the day they promised would come - when we, too, "will
ap-pear with Him in glory."
Epifania do Senhor (Ano B) A liturgia deste domingo celebra a
mani-festação de Jesus a todos os homens… Ele é uma “luz” que se
acende na noite do mundo e atrai a si todos os povos da terra.
Cumprindo o projecto libertador que o Pai nos queria oferecer, essa
“luz” incarnou na nossa história, iluminou os caminhos dos homens,
conduziu-os ao encontro da salvação, da vida definitiva. A primeira
leitura anuncia a chegada da luz salvadora de Jahwéh, que
transfigurará Jerusalém e que atrairá à cidade de Deus povos de
todo o mundo. No Evangelho, vemos a concretização dessa promessa:
ao encontro de Jesus vêm os “magos” do oriente, representantes de
todos os povos da terra… Atentos aos si-nais da chegada do Messias,
procuram-n’O com esperança até O encontrar, reconhecem n’Ele a
“salvação de Deus” e aceitam-n’O como “o Senhor”. A salvação
rejeitada pelos habitantes de Jerusalém torna-se agora um dom que
De-us oferece a todos os homens, sem ex-cepção. A segunda leitura
apresenta o projecto sal-vador de Deus como uma realidade que vai
atingir toda a humanidade, juntando judeus e pagãos numa mesma
comunidade de irmãos – a comunidade de Jesus.

Epiphany of the Lord (Cycle B) Today the child born on Christmas
is revealed to be the long-awaited king of the Jews. As the priests
and scribes interpret the prophecies in today's Gospel, he is the
ruler expected from the line of King David, whose greatness is to
reach to the ends of the earth (see Micah 5:1-3; 2 Samuel 5:2).
Jesus is found with His mother, as David's son, Solomon, was
enthroned alongside his Queen Mother (see 1 Kings 2:19). And the
magi come to pay Him tribute, as once kings and queens came to
Solomon (see 1 Kings 10:2, 25). His coming evokes promises that
extend back to Is-rael's beginnings. Centuries before, an evil king
seeking to destroy Moses and the Israelites had summoned Balaam,
who came from the East with two servants. But Balaam refused to
curse Israel, and instead prophesied that a star and royal staff
would arise out of Israel and be exalted above all the na ons (see
Numbers 22:21; 23:7; 24:7,17). This is the star the three magi
follow. And like Ba-laam, they too, refuse to be tangled in an evil
king's scheme. Their pilgrimage is a sign - that the prophe-sies in
today's First Reading and Psalm are being ful-filled. They come
from afar, guided by God's light, bearing the wealth of na ons, to
praise Israel's God. We celebrate today our own entrance into the
fami-ly of God, and the fulfillment of God's plan that all na ons
be united with Israel as co-heirs to His Fa-therly blessings, as
Paul reveals in today's Epistle. We too, must be guided by the root
of David, the bright morning star (see Revela on 22:16), and the
light of the world (see Isaiah 42:6; John 8:12). As the magi adored
Him in the manger, let us renew our vow to serve Him, placing our
gi s - our inten ons and talents - on the altar in this Eucharist.
We must offer to Him our very lives in thanksgiving. No lesser gi
will suffice for this newborn King.

Anointing of the Sick The church encourages & invites all
who are ill, who are to undergo surgery, or who are confined to
their home due to illness to be prayed over & anointed with
sacred oil. This can take place after Mass, at home or at the
hospital. Please do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a
loved one to be anointed. The last sacrament is Viaticum or
commun-ion for the dying. Please speak to a priest for
anointing.
