3. AUXILIARES - "CAN / COULD"O verbo auxiliar "can" indica a
capacidade de fazer algo, quando seguido de um verbono

para todas as pessoas, inclusive na terceira pessoa do singular.Ex:
She can dance. (Ela sabe danar.)A forma negativa de can "cannot",

acrescentando-se -ed ao final do verbo. Ex: talk - talked / work -
worked / play - played Quando o verbo regular termina em -e basta
acrescentar o -d. Ex: love - loved Quando termina em -y precedido
de consoante, substitui-se o -y por -ied. Ex: study - studied Esta
regra no usada quando o -y precedido de vogal. Ex: enjoy - enjoyed
Quando o verbo termina em uma consoante precedida por apenas uma
vogal, dobra-se a consoante final antes de se acrescentar -ed. Ex:
stop - stopped O "simple past" no varia de pessoa para pessoa. Ex:
I organized my schedule. (Eu organizei meu planejamento.) He wrote
poems . (Ele escreveu poemas). Exemplos de verbos irregulares: Ex:
drive - drove / do - did / have - had I woke up late yesterday. (Eu
acordei tarde ontem.) She took her kids home. (Ela levou os filhos
dela para casa.) Para saber o "simple past" de verbos irregulares
preciso consultar uma tabela especfica. As tabelas de verbos
geralmente so da seguinte forma:Infinitive Simple Past Past

"simple past", o "infinitive" corresponde forma presente do verbo.
O "past participle" ser visto no curso intermedirio. Para passar da
forma afirmativa para a negativa no "simple past", utiliza-se o
auxiliar "did" + "not". Quando o verbo auxiliar est no "simple
past" o verbo principal colocado no infinitivo. Ex: I played chess
last week. / I did not play poker last week. Esta regra tambm vlida
para verbos irregulares. Ex: We spent the weekend in Rio de
Janeiro. / We did not spend the weekend in Salvador. "Did not"
abreviado para "didnt". Ex: They didnt know anything about this.

9. No "simple past" interrogativo, iniciamos a sentena com
"did", o verbo principal fica no infinitivo. Ex: You went home for
lunch. / Did you go home for lunch? Perguntas com "what", "where",
"why": What did you do last Friday? (O que voc fez na sexta-feira
passada?) Where did they meet? (Aonde eles se encontraram?) Why
didnt you go to the party? (Por que voc no foi festa?) Verbo "to
do" (fazer) Laura did the homework. (Laura fez a lio de casa.)
Laura didnt do the shopping. (Laura no fez as compras.) Did Laura

The black shirt or the blue one? (Qual voc prefere? A camisa preta
ou a azul?) Quando as alternativas esto na sentena de modo
indireto: Which hotel did he stay at? (Em qual hotel ele ficou?)
"How" = "como": How do you do that? (Como voc faz isso?) Com um
adjetivo ou advrbio, "how" indica quantidade ou intensidade: How
often do you go to parties? (Quo freqentemente voc vai festas?) How
old is your grandfather? (Que idade tem seu av?) How deep is this
swimming pool? (Quo profunda esta piscina?) "Where" = aonde Ex:
Where do you live? (Aonde voc mora?) "Why" = Por que
(interrogativo) Ex: Why are you so happy? (Por que voc est to
feliz?) "Because" = "porque" afirmativo, usado em respostas. Ex:
Because I got a good grade on the test. (Porque tirei uma boa nota
no teste.)
11. "Who" = "quem".Ex: Who is your favorite singer? (Quem o seu
cantor predileto?)"Whose" = "de quem".Ex: Whose car is this? (De
quem este carro?)Whose pode vir isolado ou seguido de um

13. PRESENTE SIMPLES E CONTNUO Ex: I write letters. (Eu escrevo
cartas.) O "simple present" -> expressa hbitos, coisas que
acontecem freqentemente Ex: I like chocolate cake. / The Shopping
Center opens at 10 oclock. Exemplos de "simple present" + advrbios
de freqncia: Ex: always - sempre / never - nunca / often -
freqentemente / sometimes - s vezes Ex: He always travels on the
weekend. / They never go to the park in the mornings. / I often do
computer work. She sometimes goes to the club. Geralmente o advrbio
de freqncia vem antes do verbo. O verbo varia na terceira pessoa do
singular (he, she, it), acrescentando-se -s:I walkyou walkhe

termina em -ch, -sh, -s, -o, acrescenta-se -es. Ex: we watch - it

we study - she studies Mas se o verbo termina em -y, e antes dele
vem uma vogal, basta acrescentar -s. Ex: I enjoy - he enjoys O

o auxiliar "do" + o negativo "not".
14. Ex: They do not like liver. (Eles no gostam de fgado.) "Do
not" = "dont" (Abreviao) Ex: I do not know the answer. I dont know
the answer. Na terceira pessoa do singular, o auxiliar "do" varia;
"does". Quando o auxiliar "does" usado, o verbo principal fica no
infinitivo. Ex: She does not speak Japanese very well. (Ela no fala
japons muito bem.) "Does not" = "doesnt" (Abreviao) Ex: He doesnt
like to read. / This TV always breaks. It doesnt work well. Ele no
gosta de ler. / Esta TV sempre quebra. Ela no funciona direito. O
verbo "to do" significa (fazer) quando o verbo principal. Ele pode
aparecer duas vezes na mesma sentena, como verbo auxiliar e como
verbo principal. They do their job every day. (Eles fazem o
trabalho deles todos os dias.) They dont do the same thing every
year. (Eles no fazem a mesma coisa todo ano.) She does many things
at the same time. (Ela faz muitas coisas ao mesmo tempo.) She
doesnt do one thing at a time. (Ela no faz uma coisa de cada vez.)
Na forma interrogativa do "simple present" usa-se o auxiliar "do"
no comeo da sentena. Ex: Do they like to go to the movies? (Eles
gostam de ir ao cinema?) Does she always paint on Wednesdays? (Ela
sempre pinta s quartas-feiras?) Respostas completas e curtas: Ex:
Yes, they like to go to the movies. / Yes, they do. No, they dont
like to go to the movies. / No, they dont. Yes, she always paints
on Wednesdays. / yes, she does. No, she doesnt always paint on
Wednesdays. / No, she doesnt. O "present continuous" formado pelo
verbo "to be" no presente (infinitivo) + gerndio do verbo
principal. Ex: Im writing in English. (Eu estou escrevendo em
ingls.) O gerndio formado acrescentando-se -ing ao final do verbo.

15. O "present continuous" = descreve aes que esto acontecendo
no momento em que sefala. Forma afirmativa abreviada:Hes laughing.

animais, fenmenos da natureza e seres inanimados. O plural de "it"
"they". Os pronomes demonstrativos so: "this, that, these, those".
"This" = este, esta, isto. Ex: This is a good car. (Este um bom
carro.) This is an old house. (Esta uma casa velha.) This is music!
(Isto msica!) "This" usado quando o objeto est prximo da pessoa que
fala. O plural de "this" "these". Ex: These pants are unique. (Este
par de calas original.) "That" = aquele, aquela, aquilo. Ex: That
was a wonderful day. (Aquele foi um dia maravilhoso.) That is the
building I was talking about. (Aquele o prdio do qual eu estava
falando.) That is correct. (Aquilo est certo.) A forma abreviada de
"that is" = "thats". Ex: Thats fantastic! Usa-se "that" quando o
objeto est longe da pessoa que fala. O plural de "that" "those".
Ex: Those people are engineers. (Aquelas pessoas so
engenheiros.)

substantivos contveis, no singular. Ex: a boy. Quando um
substantivo contvel est no plural, pode ser precedido por "some" =
"alguns, algumas". Ex: I have some pictures. (Eu tenho algumas
fotografias.) Os substantivos incontveis no so usados no plural.
Eles podem ser precedidos por "some" = "algum, alguma, um pouco
de".
