    A seguinte descrio do que pode ser chamado deleitura conjunta d algumas dicas muito importantessobre o processo de leitura.

    O Sr. Smith aprendeu as letras do alfabeto cirlico,mas ele no teve tempo para aprender a falar russo. OSr. Smirnoff aprendeu a falar russo desde pequeno masnunca aprendeu a ler em russo. Um dia o Sr. Smirnoffrecebeu uma carta de um parente escrita em cirlico, masele no pode ler a carta. Ele mostra a carta para o Sr.Smith. O Sr. Smith no pode entend-la, mas tudo bemporque o Sr. Smith pode ler a carta em voz alta e o Sr.

    Smirnoff pode reconhecer as palavras e interpret-las;ambos ficam contentes.

    A questo que precisa ser respondida a seguinte:Quem est lendo, Smith ou Smirnoff? Obviamentepara ser fluente em uma lngua necessrio queo estudante aprimore as duas habilidades que o Sr.Smith e o Sr. Smirnoff adquiriram. justamente poresta razo que o Mtodo Pimsleur ensina leitura deuma maneira especial.

    Ler pode ser definido como o ato de decodificarmaterial grfico para se poder obter e determinar umamensagem. Colocado de outra maneira, ler consiste emretornar fala atravs de smbolos grficos. Cada textorepresenta uma possvel expresso vocal, mas apenasindivduos com alguma fluncia podero deduzir comoum texto escrito vai soar em voz alta.     leitura neste livro proporcionam o segundo passo. Aslies foram criadas para ajud-lo a associar sons emudanas de sons com as letras do alfabeto em ingls.

    Ingls americano I contm 21 lies de leitura: asquais esto todas juntas no fim do curso. Voc podefazer as lies de leitura numa hora conveniente depoisde voc j ter completado algumas lies orais, ou vocpode esperar e fazer todas as lies orais primeiro eento fazer as leituras no fim. Note, entretanto, que aslies de leitura incluem palavras e expresses de todasas 30 lies, assim como novas palavras. Ento, talvez

    voc sinta mais satisfao fazendo as leituras depois deter completado as 30 lies. Instrues minuciosas emrelao a como fazer as lies de leitura esto includasna parte de audio reservada para tal.

    Ao fazer as lies, lembre-se que o ingls umalngua extremamente irregular, com inmeras exceese as diretrizes dadas nestas lies refletem padresgerais e no regras rgidas. Porm, com o crescimentodo seu vocabulrio, voc vai perceber que estasexcees vo se tornando menos problemticas. Vocvai comear a reconhecer palavras e perceb-las comopalavras inteiras, eliminando assim a necessidade

    de decodificlas letra por letra. Sintase a vontade paraproceder nestas lies de leitura no seu prprio ritmo,repetindo cada lio conforme necessrio antes de seguirpara a prxima. Talvez voc descubra que no comeo,a leitura em ingls exija certa prtica. Mas, com umpequeno esforo, voc vai ficar impressionado com arapidez com a qual voc estar lendo.
