READ THESE IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS FIRST ...

The fax machine you have purchased is a high quality

product satisfying all requirements. For its best use you should follow the general recommen-dations indicated hereafter.

    LOCATION ...

Place the fax machine on a stable, flat surface with novibrations, in order to avoid it falling, thus causing in-

jury to people or damage to the product. Keep the fax away from water or steam sources, ex-

cessive heat sources and dusty rooms. Also, do notexpose it to direct sunlight.

Keep the fax away from other electrical or electronicappliances which may generate interference, e.g. ra-

dio, television, etc. Do not surround the fax with books, documents or

objects which reduce the space necessary for air cir-culation. Ideal environmental conditions for its locationare from 5C to 35C with a humidity rate between15% and 85%.

Leave enough room in front of the outlet slot for origi-nals, received or copied documents, so they will not

    fall onto the floor.

CONNECTION TO THE ELECTRICAL POWERSUPPLY ...

The fax machine is provided with a power cable with agrounded plug. If your wall power socket does notallow plug insertion or if it does not have a ground, getin touch with a qualified electrician to update your elec-trical mains outlet to the current standards.

Make sure that the power cable is easily accessiblewithout obstructing the passage, avoiding treading on,or tripping over it.

Make sure that power voltage and frequency of theelectrical outlet correspond to the power voltage and

frequency values indicated on the rear plate of the faxmachine.

Never connect the fax to a multiple plug or to an exten-sion cable to which another appliance is already con-nected: poor electrical contact may cause overheatingand originate fire or electrical shocks.

CONNECTION TO THE TELEPHONE LINE ...

Since the connection of the fax machine, telephone, an-swering machine and other devices to a telephone line issubject to national standards, please refer to the currentregulations in your own country.

    INSTALLATION AND SET-UP PARAMETERS ...

At national level, the settings and set-up parameters foreach installation may change according to the requirementsor individual user needs. Therefore, these settings and

those indicated in the manual may not always be the

same: it is suggested that you print them out before mak-ing any modifications.

    MAINTENANCE ...

When cleaning the fax, first disconnect it from the

electrical power supply. Use only a dampened cloth.Do not use corrosive substances, such as solvents,

alcohol, petrol or abrasive components. Never introduce foreign bodies (liquids included) into

the fax machine: their accidental contact with poweredparts may cause a fire or electric shocks.

    REPAIRS ...

Never try to repair the fax if you do not have the nec-essary competence: by removing the outer casing, youmay risk electrical shocks or other injury. Always call aqualified service technician.

When replacing components (accessories included),make sure that you use only original material approved

by the manufacturer. Use of other material might com-promise the safety features, as well as causing fire

and electrical shocks. Disconnect the fax from the power supply and contact

a qualified service technician, if any of the followingconditions occur:- the power cable, or its plug are damaged or worn- the outer casing is damaged- liquid has been poured inside by accident (rain in-

    cluded!)

    FOR CORRECT USE ...

Before using your fax machine, read carefully the in-structions contained in this manual. Keep the manualfor further consultation.

The fax machine has already been set for operationaccording to the standards of the telephone networkwithin your country.

If you do not use the fax machine for long periods it

should be disconnected from the power supply to avoiddamage from power surges and peaks.

    THE HANDSET ...

In case of voltage drop or interruption in the powersupply, you can neither make nor receive telephonecalls the keypad is disabled.

However, if you absolutely need the fax machine tomake a call, you have to use an emergency phone, atype certified by the network manager, which you

can connect directly to the fax machine.

    RECEIVING A DOCUMENT ...

You can set up the fax machine to receive documentssent by remote parties in four distinct modes, which

you can access by pressing the RX MODEkey. Manual reception, for situations in which you are

present and thus you can answer calls personally.

Automatic reception, for situations in which youare absent but you wish to receive faxes anyway(this is the mode your fax machine is set up for).

Automatic reception with call type recognition. With this reception mode the fax machine, after acertain number of rings, connects to the phone lineand is able to recognise whether the incoming callis a fax or phone call.

Reception with answering machine. In this recep-tion mode, the answering machine receives the calls, records any messages from the remote party and ifthe latter intends to send you a document, lets thefax machine receive it.

Any on-going reception can be interrupted by press-ing the STOP key. The fax machine returns to itsinitial waiting mode.

IF THE FAX MACHINE RUNS OUT OF PAPEROR INK OR IN THE CASE OF POWERFAILURE...

Thanks to its memory, the fax machine will still beable to receive even if:

there is no paper, ink, or print head

the print head compartment cover is open.

In case of power failure, the fax machine will main-tain in memory, date and time, programmed num-bers for a one-touch dial and speed dialling and thereports. Documents still in the memory will be lost. In

this case the fax machine will automatically print outa report which will show the total number of pages (intransmission or reception) cancelled from memory.

If during reception the paper runs out or is jammedor the ink runs out, or if you open the print headcompartment cover, the print will be interrupted, the display shows the appropriate message and thedocument you are receiving will be temporarilystored in the memory. Once the anomaly has beenrestored, the facsimile will start printing again.

    REPORTS AND LISTS

    The reports...

By printing reports, the fax machine allows you to checkthe outcome of all the operations executed (transmis-sions and receptions), the number of documents han-dled and other useful information. Some reports are al-ways printed automatically.Others can be programmed to be printed regularly andautomatically or at your request when required.

The following list identifies the types of reports: for theirprinting and interpretation, see the corresponding para-

    graphs:

Power failure report: always printed automati-cally if a power failure occurs during a reception ortransmission operation.

When normal operating conditions are restored, thefax machine can behave in two different ways:

    - If power failedwhile the fax machine was trans-mitting or receiving, it will automatically print a

report with the data for that transmission or re-ception.

    - If the power fails during or after a transmis-sion from memory or a reception in memory,a report will automatically be printed out show-ing the number of pages (in transmission or re-ception) cancelled from the memory after thepower failure.

Activity report (journal):contains the data refer-ring to the last 32 transactions (transmissions andreceptions); the fax machine stores them and thereport is printed automatically (after 32ndopera-tion, with subsequent deletion of the stored data)or upon your request.

Last transmission report: contains the data re-ferring to the last transmission. You can pro-gramme it to be printed automatically after eachtransmission or upon your request.

Failed transmission report:also contains the datareferring to the last transmission but it is printedautomatically only after an unsuccessful trans-mission attempt. The fax machine is set to printautomatically this report; if you want to disable it,see the corresponding paragraph.

Last broadcasting transmission report: it con-tains data on the last broadcasting report. Thiscan be programmed to be printed always and au-tomatically after every broadcasting transmission.
