Elevator Lobby
The design for Shift’s new headquarters is driven by the process of RENEWAL, expression of an upbeat attitude in the workplace, and a desire to create CONNECTIVITY among all employees and business associates utilizing the space. Inspiring and RESTORATIVE, the space will be illuminated with natural light in open spaces, and interior mood-enhancing lighting strategies. Upbeat use of color and texture and creative ceiling conditions will stimulate users. By utilizing technology, as well as furniture arrangements that promote collaboration, a strong sense of connectivity will emerge that will make Shift an inspiring company that leads by example. Shift HQ will leave people asking two questions: How can a company become like this? And why didn’t I think of it first?

Shift’s branding is reflected in the entire company’s office. As seen here, the brand is incorporated by the use of pop of colors and scribble pattern from the logo. It was used on the stools and the graphic wall. The strategy was to display the brand identity of Shift in
every space of the corporate office.

Store Entry
The concept for this project was a phoenix. It was chosen because of the underlying qualities the life of the phoenix has, such as being TIMELESS, SACRED and ETERNAL. The phoenix was the inspiration for the design of a place in which people from any age, background and taste can come and be a part of new beginnings. EON is where new traditions will be established and old ones are preserved. A place in which buying jewelry won’t just be for aesthetic reasons but to authenticate sacred moments in life. Ignite infinity. The store’s entry draws the customer in by the partial views and glass sculptural wall. The space is designed to create sacredness that gives the customer a piece of eternal nature to take home.

The main driver for this project was to utilize AutoCAD, and 3ds Max skills to create an office and a conference room for a well-know brand - Marvel Studios. The ESSENCE of the project was to capture the characteristic of the existing brand and translate it into the new office and conference room. The original and famous use of Marvel colors, like reds, blues and black and the comic strip quality were interpreted and analyzed to create a BRAND-DRIVEN space.

The concept of this building is the Brazilian martial art, Capoeira. In this martial art, the fighters do not have physical contact with one another which makes capoeira seem like a dance. Capoeira has three main characteristics: MOVEMENT, RHYTHM and REPETITION. These were the three inspiration words from capoeira that facilitated the design of the second skin façade and the interior design. The ceilings have features that suggest movement and repetition.

Starting from our concept words DISCOVERING, UNMASKING, and EXPRESSION, we took inspiration from what the psychology students and faculty do on their day to day basis from extracting data and providing solutions. Our concept image shows the discovery and expression of ideas spreading from the person’s head. Our space is lively, collaborative, and innovative as expressed in the image. Through overlapping ideas and images, we layered spaces to encourage collaboration. The colors create a sense of playfulness and flow, thus we created transparent and refreshing spaces to provoke creativity. Discovery and unmasking are shown in glass reveals throughout the spaces and the mix of private and public work spaces. For this project, we designed it to encourage students, faculty, and other users to express themselves and break free from the conditions they endure now.

The main waiting areas and corridors are clearly marked with large directional signage. Signage in strategic places, makes it easy to find specific areas or rooms. (Grace Hill Neighborhood Health Center)
The project’s focus was to capture the healing properties of the exterior and translate it into the interior environment to help heal the individual from the inside out using a whole body approach. The reoccuring themes that were discovered through concept analysis are LAYERING, EMPHASIS, HIERARCHY, and ENCLOSURE. These elements can be translated architecturally and holistically in ways that are beneficial to the needs of patients, caregivers, and families.

Color can play a large role in conveying concepts, expressing hierarchy, directionality, and focus. Each area in the project has specific colors and features that make them easy to identify, for example all pocket gardens have the green halo lights and the use of teal and lime green.(Tofle, Schwarz, Yoon & Max-Royale 2004)
