Pastor’s Page Greetings, It’s been a while. The feasts are all done, soon we will have the financial reports for you. Most sincere thanks to Philip Chaves and to all who helped tirelessly to make the feasts a success. Thanks also to Fr. Luiz and all those who helped make the Festa Junina a great celebration. The days are growing shorter and summer is on its way. Autumn is soon to follow. In the mean-time, enjoy the Hydrangeas around the property that are blooming and are beautiful to behold. I hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable summer. Earlier this year, we were audited by the archdiocese. It is a regular occurrence every three years and is primarily a procedural audit to see if we are following the procedures set out for us by the chancery and to make suggestions on how we might improve. We did very well with most of the things that had been set in place. As you know we had already implemented the system of placing collections in the sealed bags, only to be opened by the counters, with recorded numbers then ver-ified by the counters. We also set in place a safe box to place the sealed bags until such time as the collections are counted. One of the places that required improvement was the actual collection process at Mass. At each Mass there are supposed to be a number of ushers/collectors, with one person in control, and rotated on a regular basis. The manner of collection should be done in a way that each offer-ing is protected. The best way to do that would be for all parishioners to use the envelope system, however we cannot mandate that. I would ask that you consider signing up for the envelopes to have better protection of your donations. Another way is to make your donations directly through your bank or to make donations online. The way to do that is explained in the bulletin. Alternate-ly, if you like, Higor could explain the procedure to you personally at the rectory. If you attend the 8:00 Mass or now the 9:45 Mass, you would have noticed that we are no longer using the baskets. There is a two-fold purpose for that. First is that those long handles could be a danger by hitting someone. The other is for protection of your donation and also confidentiality. The new red bags are either passed along the row or presented personally to each participant at Mass. Once you’ve made your donation the bag moves on and the contents are more secure and much less visible to anyone else. In September that process will be implemented at all the Masses. In order to do that we need more ushers/collectors. Please consider offering your service by contacting me or the rectory and stating your desire to help. We will have a training session to go over the procedure and answer any questions. I truly appreciate your cooperation and willingness to help us make the change. I hope it will facilitate the collection process and provide for safety and protection of all the donations, of which all are important and imperative to the good stewardship of this parish and its facilities. I ask the Lord to bless you and all those you love and promise prayers for your intentions. Enjoy the rest of the summer! Sincerely in the Lord, Fr. Walter A. Carreiro

Easter Sunday (Cycle B) The tomb was empty. In the early morning darkness of that first Easter, there was only confusion for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. But as the daylight spread, they saw the dawning of a new crea-tion. At first they didn't understand the Scripture, to-day's Gospel tells us. We don't know which precise Scripture texts they were supposed to understand. Perhaps it was the sign of Jonah, who rose from the belly of the great fish after three days (see Jonah 1:17). Or maybe Hosea's prophecy of Israel's restora-tion from exile (see Hosea 6:2). Perhaps it was the psalmist who rejoiced that God had not abandoned him to the nether world (see Psalm 16:9-10). Whichever Scripture it was, as the disciples bent down into the tomb, they saw and they believed. What did they see? Burial shrouds in an empty tomb. The stone removed from the tomb. Seven times in nine verses we hear that word - "tomb." What did they believe? That God had done what Jesus said He would do - raised Him up on the third day (see Mark 9:31; 10:34). What they saw and believed, they bore witness to, as today's First Reading tells us. Peter's speech is a summary of the gospels - from Jesus' baptism in the Jordan to His hanging on a tree (see Deuteronomy 21:22-23), to His rising from the dead. We are children of the apostles, born into the new world of their witness. Our lives are now "hidden with Christ in God," as today's Epistle says. Like them, we gather in the morning on the first day of the week - to celebrate the Eucharist, the feast of the empty tomb. We rejoice that the stones have been rolled away from our tombs, too. Each of us can shout, as we do in today's Psalm: "I shall not die, but live." They saw and believed. And we await the day they promised would come - when we, too, "will ap-pear with Him in glory."
A primeira leitura sugere-nos a contemplação do De-us criador.

Most Holy Trinity In today's Liturgy we're swept through time in glori-ous procession - from before earth and sky were set in place to the coming of the Spirit upon the new cre-ation, the Church. We begin in the heart of the Trini-ty, as we listen to the testimony of Wisdom in to-day's First Reading. Eternally begotten, the first-born of God, He is poured forth from of old in the loving delight of the Father. Through Him, the heavens were established, the foundations of the earth fixed. From before the be-ginning, He was with the Father as His "Craftsman," the artisan by which all things were made. And He took special delight, He tells us, in the crowning glo-ry of God's handiwork - the human race, the "sons of men." In today's Psalm, He comes down from heaven, is made a little lower than the angels, comes among us as "the Son of Man" (see Hebrews 2:6-10). All things are put under His feet so that He can restore to humanity the glory for which we were made from the beginning, the glory lost by sin. He tasted death that we might be raised to life in the Trinity, that His name might be made glorious over all the earth. Through the Son, we have gained grace and access in the Spirit to the Father, as Paul boasts in today's Epistle (see Ephesians 2:18).The Spirit, the Love of God, has been poured out into our hearts - a Spirit of adoption, making us children of the Father once more (see Romans 8:14-16). This is the Spirit that Jesus promises in today's Gospel. His Spirit comes as divine gift and anointing (see 1 John 2:27), to guide us to all truth, to show us "the things that are coming," the things that were meant to be from before all ages - that we will find peace and union in God, will share the life of the Trinity, dwell in God as He dwells in us (see John 14:23; 17:21). Drinking of the one Spirit in the Eucharist (see 1 Co-rinthians 10:4), we are the first fruits of a new hu-manity - fashioned from out of every nation under heaven, with no distinctions of wealth or language or race, a people born of the Spirit.

Nineenth Sunday in Ordinary Time We are born of the faith of our fathers, descending from a great cloud of witnesses whose faith is attest-ed to on every page of Scripture (see Hebrews 12:1). We have been made His people, chosen for His own inheritance, as we sing in this Sunday’s Psalm. The Liturgy this week sings the praises of our fa-thers, recalling the defining moments in our "family history." In the Epistle, we remember the calling of Abraham; in the First Reading we relive the night of the Exodus and the summons of the holy children of Israel. Our fathers, we are told, trusted in the Word of God, put their faith in His oaths, convinced that what He promised, He would do. None of them lived to see His promises made good. For it was not until Christ and His Church that Abra-ham's descendants were made as countless as the stars and sands (see Galatians 3:16-17,29). It was not until His Last Supper and the Eucharist that "the sac-rifice...the divine institution" of that first Passover was truly fulfilled. And we now too await the final fulfillment of what God has promised us in Christ. As Jesus tells us in this week’s Gospel, we should live with our loins girded - as the Israelites tightened their belts, cinched up their long robes and ate their Passover standing, vigilant and ready to do His will (see Exodus 12:11; 2 Kings 4:29). The Lord will come at an hour we do not expect - will knock on our door (see Revelation 3:20), invit-ing us to the wedding feast in the better homeland, the heavenly one that our fathers saw from afar, and which we begin to taste in each Eucharist. As they did, we can wait with "sure knowledge," His Word like a lamp lighting our path (see Psalm 119:105). Our God is faithful and if we wait in faith, hope in His kindness, and love as we have been loved, we will receive His promised blessing, be de-livered from death.

encontra.
Anointing of the Sick The church encourages & invites all who are ill, who are to undergo surgery, or who are confined to their home due to illness to be prayed over & anointed with sacred oil. This can take place after Mass, at home or at the hospital. Please
do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a loved one to be anointed. The last sacrament is Viaticum or com-munion for the dying. Please speak to a priest for anointing.
Sacramento do Matrimónio
Sacrament of Marriage
To schedule your wedding, please contact the Parish Office to set up an appointment with one of the priests. Arrangements must be made at least 6 months in advance.

...I was hungry and you gave me food…
Our food pantry is getting empty. Can you help? We need to help our brothers and sisters who need assistance with food when they knock at our door. We need anything you can provide but also things they mostly ask for like: pasta, tomato sauce, peanut butter, jam or jelly, corn in can, tuna, sug-ar, coffee, salt, oil, etc… If you would like to donate some hygiene items we also accept, like: tooth paste and brushes, hair brushes and soaps. Please verify the dates on the food cans before you buy it. You can leave these items at the rectory Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Thank you very much and may Our Lord Bless you always.
