Nesse mesmo país, 39.000 toneladas de comida em condições de ser aproveitada vão para o lixo todo santo dia em mercados, feiras, fábricas, restaurantes, quitandas, açougues, fazendas. O número leva em conta dados de vários setores – agricultura, indústria, varejo e serviços. São 39 000 toneladas de iogurtes perto do vencimento, tomates manchados, pães amanhecidos, carne esquecida no congelador e milhares de itens que, por algum motivo estético, acabam nas latas de lixo – e, nesse cálculo, a Super levou em conta apenas aquilo que poderia ser aproveitado facilmente, sem grandes mudanças no processo de produção ou de distribuição. É suficiente para dar café, almoço e jantar diariamente a 19 milhões de pessoas. Imaginem o que não são disperdiçados no mundo? Até quando? Pensem!
