6. The oloud ooverage on the route beoame approximately troa three to tive tentha. At the IP the primary target appeared 1utf'iciently open tor bombing. Both the 01cheraleben and Halber1tadt area• had been baabede However, a 10lid cloud oover ob1oured the target trom about three mile• 1outh. The ing Leader inatruoted hia formation to hold their ballb1 and await inatruotions. Then he tBied to contact the Low Box to 1ee it they had dropped. It waa desired to carry th.a by a. target of opportunity (lta .. el) auggeated at briefing. The Lcnr Box Leader could not be contacted. An S turn was made to tey to pick up the Lo Group . (Upoa return to base it waa deteraind that the Low Group Leader had proceeded to gdeburg trom Oacheraleben instead of turning left behin8 the ing Leader J hence the wide gap which was never made up.) The ing Leader continued trying to oon• tact the Law Group Leader aa he proceeded to Xaasel. which could not be baabed. It was then dedided to take the tirat viaible city near the course aa a target of opportunity. Another "s• turn or two was made to try to pick up the Low Group. The 94th ing pulled behin~ another Wing with another Group in High po1ition attached on u1. The city ot a.rburg was bombed.

1. GENERAL NARRATIVE: rhe 40lst Group furnished nineteen (19) shipa for t:1 leaCl box. Tne a~se.nbly over Splaaher ]1-6, and. t'...,e weabher was such as to make assembly extre., el~r difficult. The assembly of' the Wing was likewise hampered by the weather, an a total of· thirty two (32) shipa. (2-16 ship boxes) comprise the ing .formation after the enemy coast wa.a reac ed. he rouce i. as as brie.fed, butte rowte out ~s not (See baviga-t,;or ' s log) . After passing over the primary tar get. which as not bombed due to 10/10 cloud, t.he ing s oplit up and ·che le d gro1lp pro-. oeeded alone with the low box several mile• in trail. PILOTS TATEMENT:
Pilot made late take off due to airplane running off in -
to the mud because of blown fuse in the system causing no
hydraulic pressure .
INSPECTION OF AIRCRAFT OR EQUIPMENT REVEAL TEE FOLLOWING DEFECTS OR MALFUNCTION:
Reason for abov~, pilot ~id not use generators while
running engines on the ground, causing batteries to be run
down and when generators were finally turned on a surge of
electricity thru system ble main fuse causing no hydraulic
pressure.
