Once upon a time, there was a little bunnynamed Rufus Rabbit, who had soft, fluffy furand a velvety nose. He was perfectly

proportioned according to rabbit standards,and all his rabbit friends had generally thesame body shape and size as he did.

Era uma vez um coelhinho chamado Cac

Coelho, muito fofinho, com um pelo longo e

macio, e um focinho aveludado. Ele era

perfeitamente proporcional segundo os

padres dos coelhos, e seus amigos coelhos

de modo geral tinham o mesmo tipo e

tamanho de corpo.

One day, however, Rufus Rabbitwandered far from home andencountered a family of hares. Thesehares were larger than he was, and

seemed stronger too. Rufus Rabbit felt astirring of envy in his little rabbit heart.

He began to search for ways to becomeas large and strong as the hares he hadseen. After some deliberation, he

concluded that his normal fare of carrotsand lettuce would not do, so he startedto search for other foods that would helphim to increase his size and strength.After rummaging around a few campsites, he found various morsels left lying

around, which he quickly consumed.

Certo dia, porm, Cac Coelho perambuloupara longe de casa e conheceu uma famliade lebres. Essas lebres eram maiores do queele, e pareciam mais fortes tambm. Cac

Coelho sentiu uma ponta de inveja emseu coraozinho.

Comeou a procurar maneiras de ficar maiore mais forte, como as lebres que havia visto.Depois de pensar bastante chegou

concluso que sua poro normal decenouras e alface no era suficiente, demodo que comeou a buscar outrosalimentos que o ajudassem a crescer emtamanho e fora. Depois de vasculhar algunscampos, encontrou vrios bocados em um

certo lugar, e logo os comeu.

Soon, he encountered a beaver withremarkably large and sharp teeth. He likedhis own teeth, but surely these tusks of thebeaver were far grander. He observed the

beavers traits, and saw that the beaverchewed trees.

Aha! Maybe thiswas the secret tolonger, sharper

Rabbit was notbehaving like a rabbit at all. He hadadopted an odd lifestyle that was not reallythat of a beaver, or of a hare, and certainlynot that of a rabbit, but somethingdifferent altogether.

No demorou muito encontrou um castorcom dentes impressionantemente grandes eafiados. Ele gostava dos prprios dentes, mascom certeza aquelas presas do castor erambem maiores. Observou o que o castor faziae viu que mordia as rvores.

While he had been obsessing about hislooks, his other rabbit friendswho werentaware of how they looked from non-rabbiteyeshad married and started families oftheir own. Rufus Rabbit became adisillusioned rabbit and lived avery unhappy life.
