O homem tem necessidades reais e

imaginárias.

The being has necessities that are real and imaginary.

As primeiras são pertinentes ao processo

da sua evolução.

The first are relevant to the process of your

evolution.

As outras são criadas pela sua mente, em artifícios para o gozo, o prazer.

The others are created by your mind, as a gimmick for

enjoyment and pleasure.

Não sabendo distingui-las ou não querendo compreendê-las, dá preferência, não raro, às secundárias, deixando de

lado as essenciais.

Not knowing how to differentiate them or being unwilling to review them, favours, not rarely, to the imaginary ones, leaving

aside the most essential real necessities.

Concede caráter de primazia àquelas que dizem respeito aos

sentidos imediatos, em detrimento daquelas

outras que proporcionam as emoções duradouras.

Grants priority status to those that relate to

immediate sensations, to the detriment of those that

provide everlasting emotions.

Os sentidos, quando satisfeitos, passam a

anelar por novos prazeres, engendrando

mecanismos para alcançar os gozos nos quais sedia

os seus objetivos.

The senses, when satisfied, begin to long for new pleasures, generating

mechanisms to achieve enjoyment of which gives in

to its objectives.

Em consequência, o sofrimento resulta das satisfações não fruídas,

bem como da necessidade de reviver aquelas que já foram experimentadas e

ora jazem no solo da saudade.

Consequently, the suffering results from the satisfactions

not fulfilled, as well as the need to relive what has

already been experimented and is buried in the soil of

reminisce.

O desejo do prazer é responsável pelas mais

diversas aflições humanas.

Desire for pleasure is responsible for several

human afflictions.

Mesmo quando a dor decorre de enfermidades físicas ou mentais, a sua causa está no desejo da

saúde, fenômeno compreensível, mas nem

sempre justificável.

Even when the pain is a result of physical or mental

infirmities, its cause, is in the desire of health, a comprehensible

phenomenon, but not always justifiable.

Há uma tendência natural para o bem-estar, a

satisfação dos desejos. No entanto, a existência física não pode ser

reduzida à conquista de objetivos tão limitados e de tão efêmera duração.

There is a natural tendency of wellbeing and satisfaction

in desires. However, the physical existence cannot be reduced to the conquest of objectives, so limited and of

such a short duration.

Para satisfazer os desejos, não cries

necessidades falsas, que mais complicam o quadro

das tuas aspirações.

To satisfy desires, don’t create false necessities that complicate even more the frame of your aspirations.

Intenta eliminá-las na sua origem, libertando-te da

sua constrição.

Plan to eliminate them at its origin, liberating yourself

from its constriction.

Cada paixão removida, será uma menor carga a

conduzir.

Each passion that is removed will be the lighter load to

bear.

O que desfrutes agora, retornará com maior exigência,

amargurando-te, se não for conseguido e deixando-te mais insatisfeito, se logrado, porque

desejaras reter o tempo no prazer, e como isto não é

possível, transitarás sempre de um gozo no rumo de uma nova,

atraente sensação.

What you enjoy now, will return with greater demand, making you bitter, if it

is not achieved whilst leaving you unsatisfied, because you wish to retain the moments of pleasure, and as this is not possible, you will search of another

enjoyment, by a new pleasing sensation.

O prazer é um artifício criado através da

excitação da mente.

Pleasure is a subterfuge created through the

excitement of the mind.

Quanto mais coloques esperanças na satisfação de um desafio, mais te sentirás

espicaçado por ele, passando a sofrer, enquanto não o

desfrutas, ou a arrepender-te depois, quando constates que,

afinal, não valeu o grande investimento que lhe

concedeste.

The more hope put into the challenge of enjoyment, the more you will feel drained by it, going

through suffering, whilst not enjoying, and even regretting after

realizing that, it was not worth it after all the given investment.

Não raro o desejo, ao invés de reduzir as necessidades

imaginárias, mais as estimula, buscando artifícios

e justificações.

Often the desire, rather then reducing the imaginary necessities,

will stimulate them even more, seeking artifices and justifications.

Se almejas, em realidade, a paz — pleno gozo da realização pessoal — libera a mente do desejo, e a consciência da

excitação que diz respeito à necessidade falsa que foi

criada.

If what you wish for is in reality, peace - by the enjoyment of

personal realization - liberate the mind from desire, and the

conscience from the excitement that emerges from that false

necessity.

Deste modo, estarás sujeito a maior soma de sofrimento em

razão de não poderes ficar adstrito às mesmas, já que,

inevitavelmente, despertarás para a realidade e para aquelas que são

fundamentais.

In this way, you will be subject to a larger sum of suffering as a result

of not being able to remain restricted to the same necessities; until inevitably you awaken to the

reality of the ones that are fundamental.

Faze uma avaliação daquilo que aspiras, e, ante o sofrimento que o

desejo proporciona, renuncia, mesmo que o experimentes agora,

às necessidades de importância secundária, fixando-te no

atendimento àquelas que dizem respeito à tua imortalidade e serão

eternas como bem-aventuranças na tua vida.

Review what you are aspiring for, and, throughout the suffering that pleasure provides, resign yourself, even if you experience now, the necessities of

secondary importance; fixate yourself on the progress of your immortality

which will be an eternal life blessing in your life.
