Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.” [Matthew 5: 17-37]

What could Valentine’s Day mean for a whole-hearted Catholic Christian? Just maybe that Jesus can bring our whole hearts back into the law and the proph-ets and fulfill them by teaching us to live by heart, NOT by half-hearted, immature, lazy, slip-shod, fake-it-till-you-make-it faith. People who do the minimal to partic-ipate in their faith are half-hearted and are not enjoying their own presence as they praise God. Jesus came to call us into the fullness of life by focusing on our atti-tudes not just our actions.

When people ask the question: “What is the least I have to do?” in issues of faith it is like the teen who says (about going to church) “Do I have to?” Re-consider the question. We desire a relationship with Christ for its own sake. That is the meaning of beati-tude. Have-attitude is motivation by guilt or force. Can a life of faith flow from that? Faith flows from the heart, from integrity. Yes, the law is the covenant that invites repeated habits of faith from the heart. That is called virtue. Without virtue there are no whole-hearted worship and love relationships. No Valentine’s Day worth celebrating.

Question of the Week: Is my faith half-hearted, sur-face religion or is it an affair of the heart with Christ? What family rules do you think that Mary and Joseph had for the teen Jesus?

Word for the week: Virtue: Virtues are good hab-its guided by the Law of love, that have been chosen and developed through whole-hearted living in faith.

Sexto Domingo en el Tiempo Ordinario

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

No he venido a abolirla sino a cumplirla.” [Mateo 5: 17-37]

Our Adopted Babies Month Five

Spiritual Adoption Program

Your spiritually adopted baby weighs over one

pound now, and her mother can feel her move-

ment. Before this time, she was too small for her to

feel. Although she swam with ease in her watery

world, she needed to be big and strong enough to

kick hard against the outside wall and dent it—the

inside wall of the uterus has little feeling. We are

midway through the pregnancy now. Your prayers

have helped your baby’s mother continue with her

pregnancy and seek the help she needs.

Thank you to the twenty-two CCW members

who attended our February Meeting. We had a

delicious meal and dessert followed with a

short demonstration at the “The Sweetest

Thing.”

Our next meeting is March 3rd

in the Social Hall

at 10:30AM. CCW member, Tammy Theologus

will present an introduction of “Genesis to Je-

sus” which is the original Bible Study. Ladies,

lets enlighten and deepen our spirituality by

attending this meeting during the first week of

Lent.

Please remember our ongoing projects of our

Nursing Home visit and our

Baby Boy’s BIRTH DATE. Further details will be announced in the Bulletin.

The Second Collection today is for the Capital Expendi-ture Fund: Right now, this money will go to the com-pletion of the Stained Glass Window Project! Please help us with this project.

THANK YOU! For the great start on the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your generous commit-ments last week have us well on our way toward our goal of $22,538! Thanks for those who fol-lowed up during the week as well.
