CASO POSSESSIVO

O caso genitivo (ou possessivo) expressa posse e é usado para pessoas e animais; é formado pelo acréscimo de ’s ao possuidor.  Ex. : The CAT’S eyes (the eyes of the cat)JACK'S car CHARLES'S book The CHILDREN'S book The MEN'S house

CASO POSSESSIVO

● Quando o substantivo estiver no plural formado por –s, acrescenta-se apenas o apóstrofo (’). Se o –s não for plural, mas grafia de nome próprio pode-se usar ou não o S após o apóstrofo.Ex: The GIRLS' room The LADIES' dresses (S DE PLURAL)JAMES’S ou JAMES’ car (S DE NOME PRÓPRIO)

● Substantivos compostos são acrescidos de S na última palavra.Ex.: My father-in-LAW’S car● O caso genitivo também é usado para se referir a lugares.Ex.: He's going to the RADAR’S compartment.

CASO POSSESSIVO

● Quando há mais de um possuidor:a) para indicar posse comum, apenas o último possuidor recebe o genitivo.Ex: Jack and PETER'S father (Jack e Peter têm o mesmo pai)b) para indicar posse individual, usa-se o genitivo para cada um dos possuidores.Ex: JOE’S and JANE’S fathers (Jack e Peter têm pais diferentes)

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

• Usa-se SOME (algum, alguns, alguma, algumas) em frases afirmativas.

There are SOME books here. ( Há ALGUNS livros aqui)

• SOME pode ser usado em frases interrogativas em caso de oferecimento

Would you like SOME coffee? (Você aceitaria um (ALGUM) café?)

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

• Usa-se NO (nenhum, nenhuma) em frases com verbos na afirmativa, mas a idéia é negativa.

There are NO books here. (NÃO há livros aqui)• Pode-se ainda usar ANY na afirmativa quando o sentido

for “qualquer”.She can cook ANY food . (Ela pode cozinhar qualquer

comida)

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

• Usa-se ANY (algum, alguns, alguma, algumas, nenhum, nenhuma) principalmente em frases negativas ou que contenham palavras com sentido negativo (seldom, never, rarely, without, etc.) e interrogativas.

There aren't ANY books here. (NÃO há livros aqui) He left without ANY money. (Ele saiu sem nenhum

dinheiro)Are there ANY books here? (Há ALGUNS livros aqui?)

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

SOME, ANY, NO + BODY / ONESOME, ANY, NO + THINGSOME, ANY, NO + WHERE As combinações de SOME, ANY e NO + BODY/THING/WHERE obedecem às mesmas regras de SOME, ANY e NO descritas anteriormente, quando seguidos de substantivos.

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS

Examples:I saw SOMEBODY there. (Eu vi alguém lá)I did not see ANYBODY there. (Eu não vi ninguém lá)Did you see ANYBODY there?(Você viu alguém lá?)Would you like SOMETHING better? (Você gostaria de algo melhor?)
