6. TEXTO NARRATIVO
Objetivos
Reconhecer as características do gênero textual biografia.
Aprender e identificar formas verbais no passado.
autonomia.
6. Texto Narrativo
Vamos aprender a reconhecer as características do gênero textual “biografia”.
A palavra biografia
uso dos pronomes interrogativos “WHAT” (O que, qual, quais), “HOW OLD” (Com que
idade, Com quantos anos), e “HOW” (Como) . Você verá também perguntas no presente
com o verbo auxiliar “DOES” e no passado com o verbo auxiliar“DID”. Vale lembrar,
que em português, os verbos auxiliares “DO, DOES e DID” não tem tradução. Eles apenas
Biografia é a
passado.
Biography
A biography, or simply bio, is a detailed description of a person's life. It involves more
than just the basic facts like education, work, relationships, and death; it portrays a
person's experience of these life events. Unlike a profile or curriculum vitae (résumé), a
Núcleo
de Educação a Distância – NEAD/AEDB 4
biography presents a subject's life story, highlighting various aspects of his or her life,
including intimate details of experience, and may include an analysis of the subject's
personality.
Biographical works are usually non-fiction, but fiction can also be used to portray a
person's life. One in-depth form of biographical coverage is called legacy writing. Works
in diverse media, from literature to film, form the genre known as biography.
An authorized biography is written with the permission, cooperation, and at times,
participation of a subject or a subject's heirs. An autobiography is written by the person
himself or herself, sometimes with the assistance of a collaborator or ghostwriter.
Recent years
In recent years, multimedia biography has become more popular than traditional literary
forms. Along with documentary biographical films, Hollywood produced numerous
commercial films based on the lives of famous people. The popularity of these forms of
biography have led to the proliferation of TV channels dedicated to biography,
including A&E, The Biography Channel, and The History Channel. CD-ROM and online biographies have also appeared. Unlike books and films, they often
do not tell a chronological narrative: instead they are archives of many discrete media
elements related to an individual person, including video clips, photographs, and text
articles. Biography-Portraits were created in 2001, by the German artist Ralph
Ueltzhoeffer. Media scholar Lev Manovich says that such archives exemplify the
database form, allowing users to navigate the materials in many ways.[12] General "life
writing" techniques are a subject of scholarly study.[13]
In recent years, debates have arisen as to whether all biographies are fiction, especially
when authors are writing about figures from the past. President of Wolfson College at
Oxford University, Hermione Lee argues that all history is seen through a perspective that
is the product of our contemporary society and as a result biographical truths are
constantly shifting. So the history biographers write about will not be the way that it
happened; it will be the way they remembered it.[14] Debates have also arisen concerning
the importance of space in life-writing.[15]
Biographical research
Biographical research is defined by Miller as a research method that collects and analyses
a person's whole life, or portion of a life, through the in-depth and unstructured interview,
or sometimes reinforced by semi-structured interview or personal documents.[16] It is a
way of viewing social life in procedural terms, rather than static terms. The information
can come from "oral history, personal narrative, biography and autobiography” or
"diaries, letters, memoranda and other materials".[17] The central aim of biographical
research is producing rich descriptions of persons or "conceptualise structural types of
actions" which means to "understand the action logics or how persons and structures are
interlinked".[18]And this method can be used to understand an individual’s life within its
social context or understand the cultural phenomena.

Nesta aula você pôde aprender sobre o gênero textual biográfico. Você também pôde
conhecer novos vocábulos em Inglês e identificar formas verbais no passado.
6.1. TEMPOS VERBAIS
Verbos irregulares no passado
Ex; I am at home now but yesterday at this time, I was at my friend’s house.
O passado de “am e is” é “was”. Usa-se estes verbos com os pronomes “I,He,She, It”
You are at school now. On Sunday you were at home.
O passado de “are” é “were”. Usa-se com os pronomes “You, We, They”.
Os pronomes são usados para substituir nomes.
Ex; Paul is a singer. = He is a singer.
Susan is my friend.= She is my friend.
Susan and Tom are at work. = They are at work.
Susan and I are friends. = We are friends.
Aula 2: Verbos irregulares no passado
Veja outros verbos irregulares no passado.
go-went (ir), eat-ate (comer), drink-drank (beber), fall-fell (cair), catch-caught (caçar,
pegar), drive-drove (dirigir), fly-flew (voar), give-gave (dar), come-came (vir), buy-
bought (comprar), sell-sold (vender), have-had (ter), say-said (contar), find-found (achar,
encontrar), meet-met (conhecer), make-made (fazer), see-saw (ver), tell-told (dizer),
speak-spoke (falar), write-wrote (escrever), think-thought (pensar), take-took (pegar),
sleep-slept (dormir), put-put (colocar), swim-swam (nadar), run-ran (correr), hear-heard
(ouvir, escutar) etc.
“DID?” ou “DIDN”T.
Ex; Carol ate a lot at the party yesterday.
DID Carol EAT a lot at the party yesterday?
No, Carol DIDN’T EAT a lot at the party yesterday

(Verbo haver/existir – Passado Simples)
- There was, para referir-se a elementos no singular;
- There were, para referir-se a elementos no plural.
Exemplos: There was only an empty box on the table yesterday. (Havia/existia apenas
uma caixa vazia sobre a mesa ontem).
There were a lot of mistakes on the project. (Houve/habia/existiam muitas falhas no
projeto.)
A forma interrogativa é feita colocando-se was ou were no início da frase, apresentando a
seguinte estrutura:
Was + were + there + complemento.
Exemplos: Was there a pen in the drawer? (Havia uma caneta na gaveta?)
Were there a lot of people here last nigth? (Havia muitas pessoas aqui ontem à noite?)

Exemplo: There was not any pen in the drawer. (Não havia nenhuma caneta na gaveta.)
There were not many people here last night. (Não havia muitas pessoas aqui ontem à
noite.)
Também é possível a seguinte forma negativa:

7.2 SIMPLE PAST TENSE
(Passado Simples)
por Last e ago como last night (ontem á noite), last month ( mês passado), a year ago (um
Verbos Regulares
A regra geral é acrescentar ED” ao verbo.
Exemplo: I work (eu trabalho) I worked ( Eu trabalhei).
quanto no particípio passado. Observe a tabela:
SIMPLE
PRESENTE
SIMPLE PAST PARTICIPIO
PASSADO
I work
You work
He works
She works
It works
We work
You work
They work
I worked
You worked
He worked
She worked
It worked
We worked
You worked
They worked
worked
Exemplo: They love her. (Eles a
amam.)
They loved her. (Eles a amaram/amavam).
Exemplos: I study English. (Estudo inglês.)
I studied English (Estudei inglês.)
You stay here. (Você fica aqui) – You stayed here.
Exemplos: You permit me to enter. (Você me permite entar.) – You permitted me to enter.
( Você me permitiu entrar.)
Exemplo: They open the door carefully. (Eles abrem a porta com cuidado.) – They opened
the door carefully. (Eles abriram a porta com cuidado.)
Verbos Irregulares
a) Apresentam as três formas diferentes (base, passado, particípio passado)
BASE FORM SIMPLE PAST TENSE PAST PARTICIPLE
To draw (desenhar) Drew Drawn
To be (ser/estar) Was.Were Been
To go (ir) went gone
b) Apresentam duas formas iguais (base e particípio passado).

7.3 SIMPLE PAST
(Passado Simples)
e irregulares).
A frase interrogativa é feita dessa forma:
DID + sujeito + verbo principal + complemento.
Exemplos: Did you travel last year here? (Você viajou no ano passado?)
Did she write the report?
A frase negativa é feita assim:
Sujeito + DID + NOT + verbo principal + complemento.
Exemplos: You did not travel last year. (Você não viajou no ano passado.)
She did not write the report. (ela não fez o relatório.)
Também é possível fazer a forma negativa abreviando-se DID + NOT.
Exemplo: You didn’t travel last year.
Na tradução, o DID deve ser traduzido junto com not simplesmente como não, mas com
o verbo no passado.
afirmativa.
Exemplo: Did you traveled las year? (incorreto)
Did you travel last year? (correto)
