This is my ideal house. It’s in the country. There are four bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting room and a kitchen. There’s a big garden. There are fruit trees in the garden.

This is the sitting room in an earth house. There are big doors and windows and there are little lights in the ceiling. There’s a nice blue carpet on the fl oor and a red sofa. The room is round, so there aren’t any corners!
This bedroom is very comfortable. There’s a small, round window and there are some pictures on the wall. It’s a warm room, so there isn’t a carpet.
‘Earth houses’ are houses in the ground but they aren’t dark and wet, they’re light and dry. They’re cool in the summer and warm in the winter. There are gardens on the roofs and great views. Earth houses are good for the environment.

I’m Dan. I’m a student at Clifton Park School in Bristol. This is my home. It’s a houseboat on the river. In the sitting room there’s a big red sofa, an armchair, a TV, a desk, a chair and a computer. In the kitchen there are some cupboards. In my bedroom there are two beds under the window for me and my brother. There’s also a
wardrobe. There are some posters of Manchester United on the door. It’s fun to live on a houseboat. There isn’t a garden but there are some plants, a table and some chairs on the deck. It’s great in summer.

Bonfire Night is a British festival. It is on November 5th, in the autumn.
When it’s dark, many people have bonfires and fireworks in their gardens.
Some people go to big firework displays in parks. It is traditional to burn
a figure of a man on the bonfire. He is called a ‘guy’ to remember a bad
man in the history of England called Guy Fawkes.
On November 5th we always have a bonfi re and fi reworks in the garden, and we burn a guy. We make our guy with old clothes and newspapers. Then we put him on the bonfi re. When it gets dark, my dad lights the bonfi re and then the fi reworks. Roman candles are good but I like rockets best. After the fi reworks, we cook potatoes in the fi re.

The Story of the Gunpowder PlotIt is the night before November 5th. The year is 1605.
Guy Fawkes and a group of men are
putting gunpowder in the cellar of the
Houses of Parliament. Their plan is to blow
up Parliament and kill the King of England
and all his men.
On the morning of November 5th, the
king’s soldiers enter the cellar and arrest
Guy Fawkes before he can light the
gunpowder. The king tells his soldiers to
torture Guy Fawkes and then execute him.
