PRAKATA

P engurusan dan pemuliharaan alam sekitar di Malaysia dilaksanakan dalam konteks pembangunan lestari yang bertunggakkan

pernbangunan ekonomi, pembangunan sosial dan perlindungan alarn sckitar. Pembangunan lestari tidak dapat dicapai sekiranya salah satu daripada tunggak mt dikompromikao, Oleh itu, Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara 1Il1 telah diwujudkan untuk mengambllkira pengabungan ketiga-tiga tunggak ini.

Susulan daripada ini, Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara adalah bertujuan untuk meneruskan kemajuan ekonomi, s~ial dan budaya serta peningkatan kualiti hidup rakyat Malaysia menerusi kesejabteraan alam sekitar dan pembangunan lestari.

Pada intisariny-a, Dasar ini akan memberi panduan kepada agensi kerajaan persekutuan dan negeri, sektor industri, masyarakat tempatan dan lain-lain stakeholder da1atn memastikan alam sekitar negara bcr:,ih, sclamat, sihat dan produktif.

D-alam melaksanakan Dasar ini, strategi-strategi telah digubal bagi memastikan usaha-usaha yang diambil oleh semua pihak yang terlibat dibuat secara bersepadu. Ini akan memantapkan usaha kita mencapai pembangunan lestan dengan cara yang paling optimum.

FOREWORD

The management and conservation of the environment in Malaysia is implemented within tbe context of sustainable development, which embodies the three pillars; economic development, social development and environmental protection. Sustainable development cannot be achieved if any oru:: of these pillars is compromised. Hence, the National Policy on the Environment has been developed to take into account tbe incorporation of these three pillars.

Arising from this, tbe National Policy on the Environment aims at continued economic, social, and cultural progress of Malaysia and en.bancement of the quality of life of its people, through environmentally sound and sustainable development.

In essence, this Policy will provide guidance to all federal and state agencies, industrial sector, local cammunity and otber stakeholders in ensuring that the environment is clean, safe, bealthy and productive.

Jn implementing this Policy_, strategies have been forrnulated to ensure that the efforts take-n by all stakeholders are carried out in an integrated manner. This would strengthen our effort to achieve sustainable development in the most optimal manner.

The objectives of the Policy are to achieve:

• A clean, safe, healthy and productive environment for present and future generations.

• Conservation of the country's uniq_ue and diverse cultural and natural heritage with effective participation by all sectors of society.
