TECTONIC EVOLUTION
➢Mainly filled by Paleozoic rocks, which reaches thicknesses of more than 5,000m.
➢ Three Paleozoic Supersequences from bottom to the top:
i. Ordovician-Devonian;
ii. Devonian-Carboniferous;
iii. Permian-Carboniferous (which hosts the Potash Mineralization in evaporite sequence of Nova Olinda Fm)
➢One Mesozoic-Cenozoic Supersequence.

EVAPORITE SEQUENCE OF AMAZON AND SOLIMÕES BASINS
LATE CARBONIFEROUS – 300 Ma EARLY PERMIAN – 280 Ma
➢Evaporite sequence: Deposited in a relatively stable tectonic period during the Permo-Carboniferous (Szatmari et al. 1975).
➢Probably developed in dry conditions and in an intracontinental basin partially isolatedfrom Panthalassa Ocean by Hercynian Ridges.

➢Class of rocks composed by salt minerals, from which halite is the main one.
➢Deposited from brines under conditions of strong evaporation and low precipitation.
➢Restricted, hot and subsident sedimentary basins.
➢Sequence of deposition defined by the water solubility of the compounds.

ICP-OES vs. PXRF:• Results generally have a good correlation.
• High precision and low accuracy.
• Influenced by the KCl content of theinterval, as in any semi-quantitativeanalysis
• Different correlation factors between lowand high KCl grades.
