Bread for the World Sunday: All of us know Jesus’ invitation into the reign of God. All are invited. Yet that invitation requires us to do something. It requires us to put Jesus’ words into action. As disciples we must do our part to end hunger both here and abroad. “I was hun-gry and you gave me food.”

Birthdays: Monday, October 16, we wish Margie Meredith a very Happy 89th Birthday. On Satur-day, October 21 we wish Kim Smith a very Hap-py 40th Birthday.

Second Collection: A few weeks ago we took up a second collection for Catholic Charities to help the people of Texas and Louisiana who are re-covering from Hurricane Harvey. We will be tak-ing up a second collection this Weekend, Octo-ber 14-15 for the people of Mexico recovering from the recent earthquakes and for the people of the Caribbean recovering from Hurricanes Ir-ma, Jose and Maria. This collection will go to Catholic Relief Services.

Female Veterans: The Grayson Springs DAR

(Daughters of America Revolution) are planning

an event to honor all female veterans. If you

know of any please contact Linda Peterson at

270-230-6926 or [email protected]

A Little Humor: A man got a real tough penance from the priest one day after going to confes-sion. The priest told the man, “for your penance I want you pray a whole decade of the rosary.” The man told his friend, “the good news is I only have one more year to go.”

Change: “If nothing changes, nothing changes.” - Earnie Larsen.

Parish Ministries: It is never too late to signup for any of the ministries in our parish. Just talk to Fr. Tony or call the parish office.

Good Health: Hundreds of medical studies have shown that being spiritual can help us live long-er. Even if these studies were to reverse their findings and say that being spiritual can’t extend our life span, faith can still add fulfillment to our years of whatever number. Prayer, altruism (selflessness), and a sense of belonging to a com-munity are a prescription for holistic health. (Rx: Meditate, donate, and congregate regularly to improve your health. Consult your Divine Physician if your condition weakens.)

Turn Off That Racket! It takes time to make peace with silence, but it’s important to do. Eve-ry so often, we need a breather. We need to ex-perience the truth revealed by the author of Psalm 46 when he wrote, “Be still and know that I am God!”

Joy for All: The Joy of the Gospel is for all peo-ple: on one can be excluded.—Pope Francis

Scripture Sunday: Today, October 15 has been designated by Bishop Medley as Scripture Sun-day in our diocese. This is in response to Pope Francis’s desire that one Sunday of the year would be set aside in an effort to make the Sa-cred Scriptures better known. The bookmarks inserted in today’s bulletins explains this further and proposes a method of praying the Scriptures called Lectio Divina which is Latin for Sacred Reading.

Men’s Prayer Group: Men of Saint Joseph, it is

time to stand up and show the parish, your chil-

dren and grandchildren how prayer is the way to

make a difference and a change. This Monday,

October 16, at 6pm in the basement of the recto-

ry (street side entrance) we will pray as a group

of brothers in Christ. This is a wonderful way to

get started praying for our country, our town,

and our Church and be an example for all to see

and follow. To find out more you may call Dea-

con Bob Higbee at 270-589-7316.

Volunteer’s Needed: St. John’s Thrift Store could use your help. They are located at 301 N Main Street in Brownsville. The store hours are Monday—Saturday, 9:00 am—2:30 pm.
