Helena Paz Especial Marina Muiña Fotos: A - "Magic Carpet Cubed" takes the le-ad and wins the Gaastra PalmaVela The winner in the Wally class was still to be decided depending on what hap-pened today in the bay of Palma. The fleet today sailed a 27 mile coastal ra-ce in which Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’ "Magic Carpet Cubed" took the advan-tage to climb up to the overall first po-sition by winning a complicated race. Behind the British crew, Antonio Caca-ce’s "Magic Blue" with Sergio Lottini at the helm, took the silver and the bron-ze went to last edition’s winner, Jean-Charles Decaux’s "J One" with Piers Ri-chardson as skipper. - "Rán V", winner in Mini Maxi As expected, Niklas Zennström’s "Rán V" won the gold in the Gaastra Palma-Vela in Mini Maxi class after having an impressive performance in the race of Real Club Náutico de Palma. He started today with five podiums out of the five races sailed so far, and with a very comfortable points cushion. The fight in

the overall leader board was among their pursuers, so they finished fourth in today’s race. In today’s coastal race, Andrés Soria-no’s "Alegre" was able to react and, in addition to winning today’s race, he al-so took third place overall. Roberto To-masini’s "Robertissima" with Vasco Vascotto as tactician, took the silver. - "Provezza 7" finishes off the job in IRC After taking the lead yesterday, "Provezza 7" won for the second con-secutive year the Gaastra PalmaVela. Determined to finish the job and win the gold, no sooner said than done, the Turkish crew added a first and a second place on today’s races that put him at the top of the leader board with a three-point lead on Eduardo de Sou-za’s "Phoenix", second, and six points over Harm Muller "Platoon", third . The Brazilian team leaves Palma very happy with their second place in their first race on board the TP52 designed by Spanish Marcelino Botín and which was launched just over a month ago. -

Former hockey player, professional sailor and CEO of Gaastra, Dutchman Marc Blees knows how to deal in a wide variety of sceneries. As a “Jethou” crew member faces a year with news, but also as a businessman,

with a season full of challenges, as he says, such as the involvement in Team Brunel in the Volvo Ocean, among other big events in Switzerland, France… “It is going to

be a busy year,” he smiles. In is his fourth season on the British boat owned by Sir Peter Ogden, Blees is sure about the team’s strong point: “The strength of the team is the friendship and

professionalism.” The team has a new boat (ex-Stig), a Judel Vrölijk 72 launched in 2012 that Sir Peter Ogden bought to

the Italian Alessandro Rombelli. Therefore, Blees and his team are sailing in a bigger

boat now, from a JV 60 to a JV72. On board, as he points out, “the feeling is really good and is also not

get frustrated anymore because we had a smaller boat so at the starting line we were starting exactly the sa-me but after let’s say 10 minutes, the big boats were disappearing. Now it is equal, all the same boats, so it

is a better competition.” “Jethou” faces today her last racing day at 2014

Gaastra PalmaVela on the third position. They know it

is impossible to reach the leader “Rán V”, who “is far ahead,” says the Ducht sailor, who adds quickly “but second overall, ‘Robertissima III’, is still possible and

we will have a look if we can catch them for the second place; and we have to look behind us too, because

‘Alegre’ is just one point behind us, so it is going to be a close race.”

Whatever it happens today, we will see him and “Jethou” back in the Real Club Náutico de Palma: “We

will be at Copa del Rey, of course.”
