GAME OVER PRESS START É O PONTO DE PARTIDA DEUMA VIAGEM AO MUNDO DA SUSTENTABILIDADE ONDE, DEPLATAFORMA EM PLATAFORMA, O VISITANTE SECONFRONTA COM AMEAÇAS AMBIENTAIS E ENCONTRASOLUÇ ES PARA DEFENDER O PLANETA. VAMOS JOGAR?
do Ambiente.
ambientais.
GAME OVER - PRESS START significa n o desistir e continuar a agir para melhorar o
nosso Planeta.

"GAME OVER - PRESS START" IS THE STARTING POINTFOR A JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF SUSTAINABILITYWHERE, FROM PLATFORM TO PLATFORM, THE VISITOR ISCONFRONTED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL THREATS BUT ALSOWITH SOLUTIONS TO SAVE THE PLANET. LET'S PLAY?
The action takes place inside containers which reproduce the docks atmosphere. As
soon as the visitor starts his journey, she/he realizes that there is another reality
which she/he will absorb along the way. On each platform (showroom) she/he will find
warnings for environmental issues or small contributions to revert them.
The objects on display, created by artists, designers, fashion designers and
architects, convey different sensitivities and approaches to the theme of
Environment. The visitor should go through this exhibition and form an opinion to
achieve the main goal: become an active entity in good environmental behaviour.
"GAME OVER - PRESS START" means not to give up and to keep the action needed to help
our planet.

MIGUEL SOARES
colocava a humanidade.
No outro ( PLACE IN TIME , 2005) assistimos a uma

Since his first works, the thematic universe of Miguel Soares (Braga, 1970) is
oriented to issues confronting the real and contemporary world with a fictionalised
reality, from utopias or scientific and technological dystopias, which are
manifested by collage, assemblage, digital technologies manipulation, personal
soundtracks articulation, etc.
The starting point was the relation of the planet Earth, its inhabitants and current
technologies, with technologies and , supposedly more
advanced. Afterwards, the confrontation between big terrestrial powers and the
explicitness, through the hypnotising seduction of the computer's games, of the
dangers in which this rivalry places humanity. Finally, the artist has developed a
matured reflection about the questions of entropy on society, where technology
rapidly becomes obsolete and what is new is speedily transformed in trash, thus
guaranteeing a dimension of historical and political criticism to his works. This is
the theme presented in both videos. In one of them ( , 2001) the
Earth arises surrounded by a vast ring of artificial satellites waste and the visual
seduction conceals the eminent danger of a collision. In another ( ,
2005) we watch the true history of the past and the future of the planet, unrolled from
the viewpoint of a cockroach, animal which has survived to all the previous natural
cycles of humanisation and to all the imposed cycles by technological progresses, the
same determining the destruction of the mankind which produced them.

PATRICIA GARRIDO

The reflection about places, lives that unfolded in those places and the lives that
those places kept are an ubiquitous interest on Patrícia Garrido's work (Lisbon,
1963). That life can be her own or of someone else. If it is her own, the pieces
acquire a private aspect, sometimes of difficult comprehension, if it is of someone
else the pieces are abstract models through which we are able to generalise
behaviours and feelings in general the artist integrates both territories, in such a
way that what belongs to her, what belongs to the feminine and what belongs to
humanity are confused in the readings that we want to do of them.
This piece defines a space of abstract light from a part of false ceiling from a
demolition wreckage of a Lisbon's downtown office. Apparently, nothing more
anonymous and impersonal. However, by the distortion of purposes introduced by the
artist (from functional and technical element to sculpture, from part of a ceiling to
a part of ground/wall, from light for work to light with no practical use), we are able
to be driven to other domains: we will reflect about the lives of the real bodies that
have already been sheltered under that piece of roof (cold, ugly, without a soul),
working under it year in, year out; we think of a life that we want unlike that one, we
think of our lives, now lightened by an artificial heaven.

GABRIEL ABRANTES
trabalho. A pintura, a fotografia, a instalaç o, a performance, a criaç o musical, a
A apresentaç o original desta obra ( TOO MANY DADDIES, MOMMIES AND BABIES», 2008) era
desfecho absolutamente inesperado e desconcertante.

«
Gabriel Abrante's work was known a short time before this work appraisal. Winner of
the Prize New Artists, in 2009, Gabriel Abrantes (Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 1984)
was already, and kept on being afterwards, an eclectic worker of means and work
themes. Painting, photography, installation, performance, music creation, the
narrative allowed by video, and its extension to cinema, are domains that he
nurtures, not just simultaneously in time but also many times in the same work,
registering all those contributions in digital systems of photography and video.
The presentation of this work ( , 2008) was
screened in what remained of the settings where it had been filmed, introducing the
installation dimension and by introducing us to the work space of actors and
technicians he would drive us to the history inside and introduce us in the
performance dimension. The dramatic issue of the climatic changes is the pretext to
unroll a delirious narrative of totally critical humour where preservation subjects
(protection of the Amazon Forest) are crossed with gender subjects (heterosexual and
homosexual love, marriage, breeding and adoption) driving to a disconcerting and
absolutely unexpected outcome.

JOANA VASCONCELOS

This piece integrates the nucleus of works of the beginning of Joana Vasconcelos'
career (Paris, 1973) and it already presents the set of resources and procedures
which characterise her artistic personality. For example, the integration of
mechanical or electric gadgets (not robotic, nor electronic), in order to create
situations of movement, light and/or sound; repetition of identical elements, which
are associated in different solutions and result in a new image (sometimes
metonymical, sometimes metaphorical).
Her work consists in selecting and collecting waste of the consumerist society: the
selection of those elements, inside a range of objects produced industrially but with
low technological incorporation and labour demand, which display an array of "popular
taste" objects (rarely Pop), emphasises a kitsch evocation and a mood of nostalgia on
the pieces where the artist introduces critical or ironic dimensions.
(2000) - which presents an upholstered bunk in white
synthetic leather where we could either romantically dance to the sound of a
Sinatra's classic song or be voyeurs in a stripper club - evokes, in the sparkling
headlights that cover that intimate space, the nocturnal and predator mouvement of
the cars that cross the city streets, in an endless and never satisfied search of
bodies and sensations.
