A galeria Mercedes Viegas apresenta ao pblico de Miami dois
artistas brasileiros, Raphael Couto e Alice Quaresma que
compartilham um toque de ironia e humor.Quem no se lembra da
clssica e irnica escultura de Jasper Johns, Savarine can, onde o
artista da Pop Art forja, em bronze, uma pequena lata de caf com
pinceis emborcados? Raphael Couto refaz, em fotografia, o trabalho
de Johns ao colocar um punhado de pinceis na prpria boca, dando um
novo toque de ironia, resignificando aquela imagem que se tornou
clssica ao entrar para os livros de histria da arte. Poderamos
chamar o suporte de Raphael de ironia sobre ironia. Mas nem s de
ironia vivem as fotos de Raphael. Elas tambm carregam consigo uma
carga de tenso e aflio ao submeter o prprio corpo a uma srie de
suplcios fsicos. A boca escancarada cheia de objetos estranhos e
por vezes agressivos como facas, testam os limites do corpo, sua
elasticidade e permeabilidade, as fronteiras entre o interno e o
externo.As formas da geometria so as formas da racionalidade, da
capacidade do homem de abstrair e encontrar a estrutura constante
do mundo. As formas da natureza so as formas orgnicas da existncia.
A perspectiva clssica codificava racionalmente o mundo natural de
modo a permitir a apreenso deste pela razo, numa tentativa de
reconciliar esses dois mundos.A premiada artista carioca Alice
Quaresma pratica uma anti-perspectiva. Suas fotografias de
paisagens e animais recebem formas geomtricas, paralelas ao plano
do papel, bloqueando o acesso a imagem, negando qualquer
possibilidade de aprofundamento persptico, inerente ao dispositivo
fotogrfico. O olhar se detm no primeiro plano, tornado evidente o
suporte de papel fotogrfico sobre o qual as manchas de luz e sombra
se configuram em imagens. A soluo de Alice ao invs da articular a
interao entre os dois mundos evidenciar sua incongruncia e
incompatibilidade. O mundo dos fenmenos dificilmente racionalizvel.
A existncia resiste a razo.

sculpture of Jasper Johns, Savarine can, where the Pop artist

Rafael Couto remade in photography, Johns work to put a handful of
brushes in the mouth itself, giving a new twist of irony,
redefining that image that has become a classic in the art history
books. We could call Rafaels medium irony over irony. But not just
from irony lives the works of Raphael. They also carry with them a
load of tension and distress when submitting his own body to a
series of physical torture. The gaping mouth filled with strange
and sometimes aggressive objects such as knives, test the limits of
the body, its elasticity and permeability, the boundaries between
the internal and the external.The forms of geometry are the forms
of rationality, the capacity of man to abstract and find the
constant structure of the world. The forms of nature are the
organic forms of existence. The classical perspective coded
rationally the natural world in order to allow for the seizure of
reason in an attempt to reconcile these two worlds. The
award-winning Rio de Janeiro artist Alice Quaresma practices an
anti-perspective. Her photographs of landscapes and animals receive
geometric forms, parallel to the plane of the paper, blocking
access to image, denying any possibility of deepening in
perspective, inherent in the photographic device. The look stands
in the foreground, made evident the photographic paper support on
which the light and shadow spots are configured as images. Alices
solution rather than articulate the interaction between the two
worlds is to show their inconsistency and incompatibility. The
world of phenomena is hardly rationalizable. The existence resists
reason.
