WORKSHOP FOCUS ON THE THEME
Tuesday – August 23 - 14h30 – 18hs
1. Title: What is climate justice? ¿Que es justicia climatica? Qu'est-ce que la justice climatique?
Theme: WDP approaches this theme from the ethical principles for social justice of our faith traditions. Global warming affects us all, and there are some concrete steps that we can take, at a personal level, and as community of faith to challenge that situation when we realize the intersections of environmental degradation and the racial, social, and economic inequities. The workshop will offer an overview of the issue and lift up community responses for a life in its fullness.
Facilitator: Dora Arce-Valentin (Cuba)
Conference Room: Main room (Europa/Africa)
2. Title: Ancestral wisdom: Land, identity and food security
Theme: The workshop proposes to share a glimpse into the struggles of quilombola women of the Lower South of the state of Bahia, Brazil, focusing on their life giving strategies centered on land and territory, identity, and its links with food security. Quilombolas are African-Brazilian communities set up by runaway enslaved people during the slavery period whose descendants remain in their territories still today. Together we will explore the connections with the experiences of women living in other contexts.
Facilitator: Marilia Alves Schüller (Brazil)
Conference Room: Mercosur
3. Title: In God’s Beautiful Garden Building Just and Inclusive Communities
Theme: There are at least 20 million environmental refugees worldwide. The destruction and loss caused by environmental disasters affect multiple aspects of people’s well-being, both physically and socially. Environmental disasters have adverse impacts on social relations across every context. The combination of disaster impacts and the failure of protective systems (often unavailable in the first place) aggravate gender inequalities such as violence against women and girls. It is not just sexual and physical violence, but verbal and emotional abuse, intimate-partner violence, trafficking, child marriage and female genital mutilation. Disaster-induced displacement and migration are likely to impact those left behind in terms of their roles, shifts in power structures, network support and opportunities.
Facilitator: Moumita Biswas (India)
Conference Room: Oceania

WORKSHOP FOCUS ON WDP MOVEMENT: STRENGHTENING NATIONAL COMMITTEES
Wednesday – August 23 – 14h30 - 16 h
1. Title: Connecting worship and prayerful action. Conectando el servicio con la acción orante. Connectez le culte et l'action de prière.
Theme: WDP is a sisterhood of prayer and action. We are united in prayer around the world through the service written by women from a particular country. WDP encourages responsible action that grows out of the worship service. One consistent action has been the offering given to empower women and the communities for a better life. The workshop will focus on ways that the flow between prayer and action can be explored faithfully and creatively.
Facilitator: Marilyn Pagan-Banks (WDP USA)
Conference Room: Main room (Europa/Africa)
2. Title: Young women leading the unity in prayer and actions
Theme: The roots of WDP are in the 19th century missionary movement, however this worldwide women led initiative has crossed generations promoting unity in prayer and actions. How is WDP meaningful for young women today? This workshop will give opportunity for an intergenerational dialogue conducted creatively and collectively by young women delegates representing each region where WDP is organized.
Facilitators: Tlamelo Kebatenne (Botswana), Hungreiphy Zimik Awungshi (India), Lauren Wilks (Canada) Sona Galsty (Greece), Ruth Trueba (Cuba), Sally Ibrahim Ajar (Palestine), and Anne Lizqina Lehauli (Tonga).
Conference Room: Mercosur
3. Title: Finding women’s voice in the Bible Study. Buscando la voz de las mujeres en el estudio bíblico.
Theme: WDP theme is rooted on the Bible, and it places the Bible at the center of our preparations and the exercise of listening to God and one another. Our collective reading of the Bible impacts our celebration and the actions that it inspires. The workshop is an exercise of exploring ways to collective reading the Bible to find the voice of women in Biblical texts - and how to be critical if there is none.
Facilitator: Ulrike Bechmann and Irene Trokarski (WDP Germany)
Conference Room: Americas
