Are we all authors of everything?

Today, the fine arts serve as a source of inspiration not only for artists themselves, as but also for Designers.

Our knowledge in the Brazilian Neo-concrete artistic movement led to the creation of our next collection not only of artistic concepts, but also their manufacturing processes, like the numbering system of the pieces, finally mixing them to functional design parameters.

Here, we present the result of our own research, for ourselves, our beliefs and where we permeate. This series completes a stage, a critique, a thank you and is a great achievement.

With a decade’s experience working in the Art Market we built our particular beliefs about the meaning of the expression “the creator of his own work.” It was a fantastic experience, which resulted in a profound questioning of the limits of the artist’s creation, its production and its outreach. What is a reproduction? What does Tribute means? And Inspiration, where do we find it? Where is the limit where someone must credit the authorship of something to someone?

Do artists copy themselves? What would history be if thoughts were not shared? And what would art be if artists could not learn from other artists? Would they still be inventing the wheel, or not? Those who are inspired by the Möbius strip must pay royalties to Möbius or the mathematician who developed the infinity symbol? Those who seek inspiration in nature need to remunerate and reward God?

We are authors.

We are designers.

We are creators of our own work.

We are proposers of our own experience.

We are a reflection of our existence.

Coffee table inspired by Brazilian neo-concretists two-dimensional geometrical figure research. The design of the bases serves as a link, fitting the elements of this furniture, characterized by versatility of surfaces, capable of becoming two units when separated. Displays various plans within a single form.

Parts of the supports can be used together as a table, or separate and dissociated completely pure and uncluttered, creating different compositions.

Cocoon Series #1

Aluminum | rubber | electrostatic painting 0.45 x 0.45 x 0.90m

“When you unveil the vertical and horizontal lines building a surface it simply subdivides this surface with their own lines of construction”. - LC -

Opening a cube and transforming it into a plan was the starting point for the creation of this trio of pieces that use three-dimensional artworks and geometric shapes from the Neo-concrete movement as reference in creating their multiple planes. Two materials were combined to detach the outer part of the cube and make the contact area a harmonically shaped piece with the exterior: the metal (also widely used in Neo-Concretist period) and the blanket of recycled tire scrapes. The result is a new and lovely pattern, highlighting the organic lines that can be viewed where the surfaces meet.

SHELTER

A steel plate was cut into circular movements and then twisted and welded, creating this chair with rustic and naturally elegant finishing. Creating new shapes from flat surfaces is one of the trademarks of Neo-concrete artworks and, in this case, the source of inspiration. Here, the circle expands fully, extrapolating the square and surprising every expectation.

Expanding the circle. The spatial tension that led to the breakdown of the unique form was created. The circle being full and limitless, stretched it self and surpassed the square.- LC -

This furniture is created to be transformed according to the need and the desire of the owner. The use of its modules gains expression and translates into versatility, one of the striking features of the neo-concrete art. Drawers open and close through a movement translated from poetry, forming different planes used as shelters for memories and remembrance.

“I started playing with matchboxes, thinking to “come up” with an entire house made of boxes. It became a mausoleum in fact two of them, which are a good continuing of the research of the metaphysics of black phase of white lines”.- LC -

Light Object manufactured in stainless steel and movable mirrors that control the intensity and position of the light by adjusting the source, as required. Extremely economical and versatile, using a single LED lamp, this piece has the ability to effectively illuminate an environment, produce unexpected effects and even reproduce the atmosphere of dinner by candlelight. His form of intertwined bodies suggests a gathering, a touch, a group hug. It is soft and cozy furniture, that can be used to sit, lie down, relax, play. To be experienced alone or with friends, by joining or separating parts, crossing them over or down and adapting the environment in an enjoyable and entertaining experience.

Mameluca Studio and its integration with the world

The Studio Mameluca’s projects are inventive and experimental. These two fields mix furniture and objects that have the playful, irreverent, sustainability and ally with comfort and the highest technical and aesthetic quality as wires for this design duo.

Like the work of Lygia Clark, combining the study of geometry with a more sensitive and organic character

of matter leading the viewer to a wide network of activation of the senses and memory. The Mameluca Studio is an inspiring collection, combining a competent study of ergonomics and their dialogue with a subject that tends to be soft, comfortable, cheerful without forgetting practicality. These are participatory, moldable projects that require the participation and availability of the user to experience the possibilities of using more variables and appearance to the world???. This is the case of Cocoons or Matchbox, understood and produced as open structures

In Creature, inspired by the work Glasses (1968) by Lygia Clark is a frame with four lenses that can be triggered by the viewer in order to (re) view the world in different forms and meanings, a single lamp reflects light in various directions due to the use of different frames of glass that assist in this engineering. The moving structure transmits this organic feature to the object, which is another constant feature seined in their projects.

Therefore, the Mameluca Studio projects have portability and mobility as actions and proposals, resulting in a different, warm, modern and sustainable design. As reported in their manifesto PU#A insPIRAÇÃO, the Mameluca doesn’t reproduce or copy the work of Lygia Clark, but questions the idea of authorship, from the visionary ideas of Clark where this

series is inspired. It is as if the work of this important artist inspires new views and finds a dialogue with the design industry and the experience. The concern of the Mameluca Studio is to promote an atmosphere of participation and integration with the user, thus contributing to an expansion of the field of product design.

With a look of constructive order, its goal, if it exists, is dealing with numerous drawings and structural games that are offered. The Matchbox cabinets, are multipurpose, with a characteristic of having cavities or drawers that meet different uses and needs. The size and height are regulated, from the opening and closing of the drawers, making life easier and organized. This mutant and inventive feature transmits the Mameluca Studio projects with a strong connotation of ingenuity and creation. Our imagination is required at all times, as if somehow we were partners in the development of structures that are not ready, because they are constantly offered in accordance with what we want or need.

The Orgy (Collective Body) emphasizes this characteristic of improvisation, fun, freedom and stripping the line features. Nothing is given as the project is exhibited as an attitude in constant innovation. Seated, slept, talked, alone or in accordance with the structure we built. There are no rules as the objects are can be constantly reconfigured. Freedom is the method.
