SUMMER IEP...FOR PARENTS Present Levels of Performance: Goal(s): Instruction and Related Services: Games, Activities, and Sports July 2019 Deaf and hard of hearing children usually don't learn language in the "typical" way--hearing conversations everywhere-so there is often a vocabulary gap that needs to be closed. Vocabulary leads to language, which ensures reading, school success, and social-emotional development. 1. Identify which of the 13 "Phase 1" words your child knows-expressively and receptively. If those are already mastered, check on the 10 "Phase 2" words. 2. Make this the WEEK of GAMES. Talk/sign these words in every situation. Games are something we think are easy. Take time and explain the rules AND the strategy for games. Go to a local sporting event and talk about the different areas like concessions, box office, home base, and so on. Games create family memories and connections-go make them! More ideas at https://beginningssc.org/blog/
