Deaf and hard of hearing children usually don't learn language in the"typical" way--hearing conversations everywhere-so there is often avocabulary gap that needs to be closed. Vocabulary leads to language, which ensures reading, school success, and social-emotional development.
1. Identify which of the 13 "Phase 1" words your child knows-expressivelyand receptively. If those are already mastered, check on the 10 "Phase 2"words. 2. Make this the WEEK of GAMES. Talk/sign these words in every situation.
Games are something we think are easy. Take time and explain therules AND the strategy for games.Go to a local sporting event and talk about the different areas likeconcessions, box office, home base, and so on.Games create family memories and connections-go make them!
