Investigação A minha investigação no quadro do ILTEC está centrada no desenvolvimento da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional e mais especialmente na relação entre a gramática e a análise do diálogo.

SCIMITAR Desde 2002 trabalho no quadro do grupo SCIMITAR sediado em Santiago de Compostela para a investigação da interação verbal e da tipologia e aquisição das línguas. O grupo executa projetos financiados pelo Ministério Espanhol das Ciências e da Innovação, pelo Fundo Europeu para o Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) e pela Xunta de Galiza. Desde 2008 sou Coordinador de Investigação do SCIMITAR. ILTEC Trabalho como investigador no grupo Discurso e Literacia do Instituto de Linguística Teórica e Computacional (ILTEC), uma associação privada sem fins lucrativos cujos associados são a Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, a Universidade de Lisboa e a Universidade Nova de Lisboa. O grupo pretende desenvolver investigação numa perspetiva funcionalista. É objetivo dos seus investigadores descrever e explicar fenómenos da língua em termos do seu uso na interação verbal. Trabalho lá também dentro do projeto ‘Language Rich Europe’, uma tentativa financiada pela Comissaão Europeia de inventarizar todas as línguas faladas na Europa. Revistas Sou um dos três diretores da revista linguística internacional Functions of Language (Benjamins), que publica artigos e resenhas críticas sobre todos os aspetos da linguística funcional. Sou também conselheiro editorial para a revista internacional Studies in Language, a revista alemã eletrónica EESE, a revista croata Jezikoslovlje, a revista eslovena ELOPE, a revista romena British and American Studies e as revistas espanhóis Journal of English Studies e Revista Canaria de Estudios Ingleses. Consultor Entre julho de 2005 e junho de 2006 elaborei um programa de estudos (DigiTALENT) para desenvolver as aptidões académicas (leitura e compreensão de inglês) de estudantes de economia e de ciências sociais no quadro da Universidade Digital Neerlandesa. Desde 2007 executo funções de avaliação e de comunicação para a Agencia Executiva Relativa à Educação, ao Audiovisual e à Cultura (EACEA) em Bruxelas. Em 2009 trabalhei como consultor na Universidade de Alcalá de Henares (Espanha) na área da aprendizagem autónoma do léxico. Em 2011 en 2012 serei membro da Commissão de Apoio do Departmento de Estudos Anglísticos da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. Cursos de pós-graduação Entre 2001 e 2010 lecionei cursos de pós-graduação em Cuenca (2 vezes), Madrid, Gijón, Vigo e Santiago de Compostela (Espanha), em Södertörn (Suécia), em Gante (Bélgica; 2 vezes), em Lovaina (Bélgica), em Londres (Reino Unido), em Kosiče (Eslováquia) e em São José do Rio Preto (2 vezes), Goiânia e no Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). Organização de congressos Em 2010 organizei o Primeiro Congresso Internacional da Gramática Discursivo-Funcional (IC-FDG-2010) em Lisboa (Portugal), assim que o curso de pós-graduação que o precedeu e o colóquio que o seguiu.
