Além disso, ele é empregado para falar sobre situações temporárias, ações contínuas ou que acabaram de acontecer e continuarão acontecendo. Por se tratar de situações que ocorrem no momento da fala, geralmente são utilizados os advérbios de tempo nas frases, por exemplo: now (agora); at the moment (no momento); at present (no presente). Formação do Present Continuous O Present Continuos é composto por um verbo principal e o verbo auxiliar. Nesse caso, utiliza-se o verbo to be no simple present (presente simples) como auxiliar e ao verbo principal é acrescido a terminação – ing. Ou seja, na construção frasal esse tempo verbal segue esse padrão de formação: Sujeito + Verbo To Be + Verbo com “-ing” + Complemento Exemplo: I am watching TV. (Eu estou assistindo TV). PRESENT CONTINOUS

O Present Continuous ou Present Progressive (em português, presente contínuo ou progressivo) é um

tempo verbal usado para indicar ações que ainda estão em progresso no presente.

Além disso, ele é empregado para falar sobre situações temporárias, ações contínuas ou que acabaram de acontecer e continuarão acontecendo. Por se tratar de situações que ocorrem no momento da fala, geralmente são utilizados os advérbios de tempo nas frases, por exemplo:

now (agora);

at the moment (no momento);

at present (no presente).

Formação do Present Continuous O Present Continuos é composto por um verbo principal e o verbo auxiliar. Nesse caso, utiliza-se o verbo to be no simple present (presente simples) como auxiliar e ao verbo principal é acrescido a terminação –ing. It Is – It’s You are – You’re We are – We’are They are – They’re Nas frases negativas podemos usar a contração do “not”, mas isso não ocorre com o “am” (primeira pessoa): I am not You are not – You aren’t She is not – She isn’t He is not – He isn’t It is not – It isn’t We are not – We aren’t You are not – You aren’t They are not - They aren’t Obs: Nos textos mais formais (sejam acadêmicos ou científicos) as contrações não são utilizadas.

PAST CONTINOUS

I was working

O Past Continuous ou Past Progressive (Passado Contínuo ou Progressivo) é um tempo verbal utilizado

para indicar ações que estavam ocorrendo em determinado momento do passado.

Além disso, ele é usado quando duas ou mais ações estavam em progresso ao mesmo tempo no passado.

Nesse caso, é muito comum o uso do “while” (enquanto).

Formação do Past Continuous: Regras

O past continuous é formado pela união do verbo auxilar to be conjugado no simple past (passado

simples) + -ing acrescido ao verbo principal.

Forma Afirmativa (Affirmative Form)

Para as frases afirmativas no past continuous a forma correta de construção frasal é:

Sujeito + Verbo To Be no Simple Past + Verbo Principal com –ing + Complemento

Exemplo: She was going in my home (Ela estava indo na minha casa)

Forma Negativa (Negative Form)

Para as frases negativas utiliza-se o "not" após o verbo to be, sendo sua formação:

Sujeito + Verbo To Be no Simple Past + Not + Verbo Principal com –ing + Complemento

Exemplo: She was not going in my home. (Ela não estava indo na minha casa)

Atenção! (Pay Attention!)

Na forma negativa o verbo to be pode aparecer na forma contraída:

He/She/It wasn’t

We weren’t

You weren’t

They weren’t

Forma Interrogativa (Interrogative Form)

Na formação das frases interrogativas, utiliza-se a seguinte construção frasal:

Verbo To Be no Simple Past + Sujeito + Verbo Principal com –ing + Complemento

Exemplo: Was she going in my home? (Ela estava indo na minha casa?)

MODAL VERBS

A função dos verbos modais é mudar ou complementar o sentido do verbo principal, expressando ideias de possibilidade, obrigação, dedução, desejo, proibição, vontade, capacidade, etc. Veja, a seguir, os verbos modais e o que cada um, basicamente, expressa:

Can (capacidade e permissão): I can run for a long time. (Eu posso correr por muito tempo)

Could (possibilidade e habilidade de passado): I could do it, but I don’t want. (Eu poderia fazer isso, mas eu não quero)

Should (conselho): You should visit your mother. (Você deveria visitar sua mãe)

Must (obrigação): He must study English. (Ele deve estudar inglês)

Must (proibição): He mustn´t park here. It´s forbidden.
