TÍTULO:
O ENSINO DA LÍNGUA INGLESA EM UMA ABORDAGEM INTERDISCIPLINAR
POR MEIO DO TEMA ALIMENTAÇÃO SAUDÁVEL E QUALIDADE DE VIDA
Autora: Vera Aparecida e Souza Polisciuc

Interdisciplinaridade. Leitura. Intertextualidade.
Alimentação.
Formato do Material Didático: Caderno Pedagógico
áreas/disciplinas do conhecimento.

Caro Aluno (a),

Banana, the most popular fruit in Brazil
A tasty, highly nutritious fruit that costs very little. These
qualities have helped bananas become one of the most
popular foods in the world. A bunch of banana
A lot of people think that bananas are native to Brazil, but they are not. Most
probably, they are from Asia, where cultivation is thought to have started 4,000
years ago. They were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese colonizers. The soil and
climate in several Brazilian states are perfect for this fruit. This is why Brazil has
become one of the largest producers of this fruit. Bananas are used to make
sweets, cakes, pies, ice-creams, and even savory dishes.
They are an excellent source of carbohydrates, which provide energy for the body.
They are also rich in vitamins A, B and C, as well as mineral such as potassium,
iron, and phosphorus. Eating this fruit helps prevent many diseases and has also
been shown to combat depression and stress.
Nutritionists say bananas are ‗energy fruits‘. This is one of the reasons why the fruit
is very popular with athletes. Gustavo Kuerten, the greatest Brazilian tennis player of
all time, used to eat bananas during the games. Bananas are the fourth – most
popular agricultural product in world, after wheat, rice and corn.

YES, we have bananas!
Besides being eaten by millions of Brazilians, ‗banana‘ is used in lots of phrases and
even song lyrics in Brazil. When we buy a good product for a great price, we say we
bought it ‗for the price of a banana‘. When Kaká became successful at Milan in
2003, the club president Silvio Berlusconi said his club had brought a star player ‗for
the price of a banana‘ (Sao Paulo sold Kaká for around U$$ 8 million). In music, two
of the biggest hits for Carmen Miranda were ‗Yes, nós temos bananas‘, and Chiquita
Banana‘.

HEALTHY DRINKS
Caro aluno (a),
Cientistas do
Pre-reading
Veja a imagem Beverages Guidelines from the Experts, publicada no

Vamos tentar?

WATER CONSUPTION
Water is necessary for metabolism, normal physiological function, and may provide
essential minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, and fluoride. (...)Scientists have
recently begun studies of human water requirements, the assessment of hydration,
and the relationship between hydration status and human health. Acute dehydration
results in impaired cognition, moodiness, poor thermoregulation, reduced
cardiovascular function, and impaired physical work capacity.
The Panel recommends 20 to 50 fluid ounces of water per day but notes that all
beverage needs for adults can be met with water.

COFFEE IS PART OF BRAZIL’S HISTORY
Between 1850 and the end of the 1920s, coffee was the crop that drove the
Brazilian economy, generating wealth and development mainly in the states of São
Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio where the weather and the soil were perfect for
growing coffee.
The history of coffee in Brazil began in 1727, when Sergeant – Major
Francisco de Melo Palheta went to French Guyana to bring some coffee plants back
to Brazil. From 1850, coffee was the most important source of wealth for Brazil. (…)
Brazil remains the world‘s largest producer and exporter coffee, followed by Vietnam
and Colombia. In 2011, Brazil earned US$8.7 billion from coffee exports. While the
world celebrates International coffee Day on April 14, Brazilians celebrate National
coffee Day on May 24.
EUROPEANS ALSO LOVE COFFE
Coffee originated in Ethiopia and spread around the world through Egypt and
Europe. Europeans have been fond of this drink for over 200 years. In the early 19th
Century lots of specialized coffee houses began to spring up in major European
Capitals. The greatest writers, politicians, philosophers and European artists often
gathered in cafes to exchange ideas, while enjoying the drink In the early 20th
Century the Italians created the espresso machine. Each country has its own way to
enjoy this beverage The Swiss usually drink coffee with whipped cream. In Belgium,
it is customary for people to have coffee with a small piece of chocolate in the cup.

Nutrition
Milk, the taste of childhood
Rich in calcium, milk is essential for the development of bones and muscles Have
you ever wondered what life would be like without milk? In the first weeks of life
breast milk is the only food a baby knows. After a while babies start on formula. Milk
is used for a few months until the babies can digest other foods. In the animal world
the offspring of many species also feed on breast milk. This illustrates the
importance of milk in our lives, especially during childhood and adolescence. Milk is
a valuable food, as it provides our body with the calcium, protein and vitamins (A, D
and B12) it needs. Drinking milk helps boost the
immune system and builds strong bones,
muscles and teeth, and also prevents a range of
diseases.
Drinking milk in adulthood
According to nutritionists, from 6 months to 10
years of age, a child should drink up to 3 cups of milk a day. In adolescence, the
ideal is 2 cups. From 18 to 50 years of age milk is not so important. Adults can
replace milk with dairy products, such as yogurt and cheese, and other types of food
rich in protein and calcium. However, for people over 50 years of age, milk is
important again. At least that is what a recent survey conducted by a Canadian
university says. According to this study, milk is more effective than water in hydrating
children and people over 50 years of age. Although milk is a highly nutritious drink,
some people are allergic to it and some people are lactose intolerant.

That is, such foods worked as medicines.
Part of this group includes carrots,
tomatoes, olive oil, fish and various fruits,
