PRINCIPLE CHANGES
A new Section B4 has been introduced to describe the arrangements for conveying
passenger vehicles on empty coaching stock trains.
A new Section K6 has been introduced to describe the arrangements for
engineering trains and on-track machines that become out-of-gauge when in their
working mode.
DETAIL OF CHANGES
Section headings in bold relate to the previous issue of the ‘WhitePages’
SECTION B MARSHALLING AND COMPOSITION OF FREIGHT TRAINS
B4 Traffic covered by International Regulations
This section has been renumbered B5, as a result of the introduction of a new
section B4.
A new Section B4 is titled Conveyance of Coadhung Stock Vehicles on Empty
Coaching Stock trains.
Section B4.1 explains that passenger-carrying coaching stock or multiple-unit
vehicles under their own power or hauled dead can be conveyed as long as the
vehicles are shown in the Sectional Appendix as permitted to operate over a route,
or the driver has been provided with a document that shows that the vehicles are
permitted to pass. They may be subject to restrictions or conditions of travel.
Section B4.2 explains that when trains are conveying vehicles not normally
permitted to pass over a route, and are subject to route restrictions, this may be
indicated by a train identity of ‘3Q__’ or ‘5Q__’.
Section B4.3 explains that train operating company instructions will show when any
barrier or adaptor vehicles must be conveyed as well as the coaching stock.

SECTION K VEHICLES REQUIRING SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF TRAVEL
K2 Freight Loads for which Special Conditions Apply
K2.1 Load Examined Procedure
The reference to ‘the Network Rail standard vehicle gauge’ has been changed to
‘the Network Rail W6a gauge’, which is a more correct description.
K2.2 Exceptional Loads Procedure
Two references to ‘the Network Rail standard vehicle gauge’ has been changed to
‘the Network Rail W6a gauge’, which is a more correct description.
K2.4 Network Rail’s Responsibilities
The term “Special Train Notice’ has been changed to ‘Conditions of Travel notice’
which is now a more correct term, and a ‘Note’ has been added to explain the
meaning of this term.
K3 Network Rail Standard Vehicle Gauge
The ttitle and all references in this section to ‘the Network Rail standard vehicle
gauge’ have been changed to ‘the Network Rail W6a gauge’, which is a more
correct description.
Table K1 Network Rail Standard Vehicle Gauge
The ttitle has been changed to Network Rail W6a gauge’, which is a more correct
description.
A new Section K6 has been introduced concerning engineering trains and on-track
machines which become out-of-gauge when in working mode. Section K6.1
describes certain types of train to which this applies. Section K6.2 describes how
such a train is dealt with when travelling to or from a possession, and the
arrangements that must apply when it is to work inside a possession. Section K6.3
describes how a train is dealt with when travelling to or from the section where it is
to work, and the arrangements that must apply when it is to work ouside a
possession.
Appendix 2 EXCEPTIONAL LOAD CODE WORDS
Three new code words have been introduced which relate to conditions of travel
associated with an engineering train that is out of gauge when in working mode,
and is working outside a possession. Three existing code words have been
withdrawn as they are no longer appropriate to present day passenger trains.
