L o ss o f th is ho ld ingfo rce w ou ld a llow th e b asem en t m em b rane to p opo u t an d fo rm m ic roaneu rysm s, w h ich appea r in m e s -ang io lys is w ith n ec rosis o f m esan g ia l ce lls , d iabe tes ,and o the r g lom eru la r d isea se s (1 1 ,20 ) .

    M e sa n g ia l ce lls ca n p ro je c t in to th e cap illa ry lum en(4 ,9 , 1 0, 1 3, 1 6 ). Z im m erm an n (4 ) sug gested tha t theym i g h t d o th is fo r nou rish m en t.     O the r m ech an ism s o f inco rpo ra tion have been sug -gested (s uc h a s b y p a s sa g e a lo n g th e p e rip h e ra l g b -m er u l a r ca p illa ry w a ll, b y transport across en do th e-h a l cy to p la sm , o r b y m e sa n g ia l c e lls s w e e p in g th ep e riph e ra l ca p il la ry w a ll) , bu t there is litt le e vid en cefo r th em (1 5,1 9,2 0).
